In the end, an apartment was found at an average price, although so far without a single review from other guests. Apparently it was for this reason that dear Charles, the young owner of the apartment, settled us in his place, and did not refuse us, like the others) Without reviews, of course, it’s not very convenient to book anything, because the owner can embellish the accommodation somewhere, give incorrect information, and generally turn out to be a shady type. In our case, the discrepancy was that the description supposedly says it takes only 5 minutes from the metro station to the apartment. In fact, it turned out to be stomping for about 15 minutes, which did not make us happy at all. But as for the appearance of these apartments in Paris, everything was absolutely identical to the photographs, because in this regard we liked everything.

The apartment is located on the third floor of a decent apartment building with a courtyard. The main room in the apartment is a stylish living room.

Therefore, you should keep in mind that it is unlikely that you will be able to book a hotel for 10 euros per night in Paris. However, my goal when planning my trip was to find decent accommodation in a convenient area of ​​Paris for a more or less reasonable amount.

Let me make a reservation right away that my goal was not to book the cheapest accommodation in Paris, but to choose the best option in terms of price-quality ratio. Based on my experience, the cheapest rooms require large additional costs:

  • firstly, these are time costs - a large distance from the center and attractions requires a daily waste of time to get from your overnight stay to the center or attractions of interest. This can only be compensated by the presence of a metro or bus stop at a very short distance from your location;
  • secondly, there are monetary costs - a large distance means daily expenses for travel, since you won’t be able to get to any places of interest on foot;
  • thirdly, I would call it “the cost of your nervous system.” This point is very relevant specifically for booking accommodation in large capital cities such as Paris. Answer: Are there streets or areas in your hometown that you would never go to alone or in the evening? Would it be better to avoid their visits altogether? In this case, what can we say about such a large city as Paris! Moreover, it is here on these streets that hotels with the most budget rooms can often be located! And it’s not surprising - after all, knowledgeable tourists have an excellent idea of ​​which arrondissements of Paris they shouldn’t choose to stay in. As a result, the short list of preferred areas of Paris that I compiled for myself looked something like this:

The fifth arrondissement of Paris - the Latin Quarter, the Sorbonne and the Pantheon are among the attractions here. Very close to the main city center. Prices are, however, slightly lower than in previous areas - a room can be booked from around 60 euros per night;

The sixth arrondissement of Paris - there are, in general, no attractions here. But it is very close to the city center and the area is regarded as truly Parisian, quiet and pleasant to live. Prices are about the same as the previous quarter;

The Eleventh and Twelfth arrondissements of Paris are areas without any special attractions, but hotel prices here are more budget-friendly. You can book an inexpensive hotel in these arrondissements of Paris starting from about 25 euros per night. At the same time, when choosing to live here, you should be careful - you should not stay in the area bordering the immigrant Twentieth Arrondissement of Paris. It might not be safe there.

1. Furniture

When choosing an apartment, be sure to pay attention to the “furnished/unfurnished” characteristic. Of course, the second one is cheaper, but you risk finding only the kitchen sink there. If you are not an ascetic, ready to live among bare walls and sleep on the floor, you will have to spend a lot on furniture.

2. Studio apartment

In our understanding, a studio is a modern home with a lot of space. But in Paris everything is a little different. After reading the ad, don't expect to see a modern loft with artist neighbors. Most often this is a small room of 15–20 m², where they tried to squeeze in a living room, bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. Sometimes it can even be a “communal apartment” with a shared toilet and shower.

When renting an apartment in the historical center of Paris, you risk facing two problems.

Firstly, a huge number of tourists scurrying around your windows around the clock. In the capital of France there is no such thing as a “tourist season”: people from all over the world at any time of the year come to look at and hang out in and wander around.

The second disadvantage is the disrepair of many buildings. The apartment itself may look great, but the dilapidation of the walls or ceilings will cause a lot of trouble.
