History of Beidaihe

The first mention of this area is found in historical sources more than two thousand years ago. For a long time this area was a simple fishing village. However, after the arrival of British railway construction specialists here, this area became popular and turned into a resort. Diplomats, missionaries and businessmen from Tianjin, as well as the Beijing diplomatic mission, began to build cottages and villas on the shores of the bay. In 1898, by decree of Emperor Guan Xu, Beidaihe was designated a resort of “all-Chinese significance.” Perhaps it would have remained so if Europeans had not come here in 1890 to build a railway. The favorable climate and clean beaches determined the future of this village for many years to come. Many influential people of Tianjin, as well as the Beijing diplomatic mission, began to build cottages and villas on this site. In addition, golf clubs, cabarets, bars and other entertainment venues were built to provide greater comfort for tourists. In 1979, access to the resort was opened to foreigners.

Now the Beidaihe resort has three beaches. In its western part there is a beach intended for visiting tourists. It is equipped with umbrellas and sun loungers and is located opposite the complex with the appropriate name - “International Club”. People who belong to the highest echelon of power are located, as a rule, on the “Middle Beach”. Well, the eastern beach is occupied by ordinary Chinese who just want to relax and improve their health.

This applies to fish, jellyfish, crabs, shrimp, mussels, scallops and other seafood. Street stalls abound with fruits, including tropical ones.
