Blue marlin. Giant ship Blue Marlin Black marlin ship

When it becomes necessary to transport a large number of ships (provided that they themselves are not yet ready to launch), move a giant oil platform (for example, owned by the company"British Petroleum" Thunder Horse PDQ) or deliver a damaged military missile ship to the port (for example, such as the USS Cole), the unique MV Blue Marlin will come to the rescue.

1. The vessel "Blue Marlin" is a semi-submersible transport ship.

2. Such sea-going vessels have rather limited specialization.

3. Semi-submersible transport ships are designed to move large, heavy cargo, for example, they can transport sections of offshore platforms and oil platforms, submarines, cranes, ships, piers and so on. The Blue Marlin is equipped with 38 cabins, which can easily accommodate 60 people, a gym, sauna and swimming pool.

4. The ship "Blue Marlin" has its twin - the ship "MV Black Marlin". Both vessels have been owned by the offshore heavy transport company, headquartered in Oslo, Norway, since their construction in April 2000 and November 1999, respectively. On July 6, 2001, both vessels were purchased by Dockwise Shipping from the Netherlands.

7. HISTORY

The US Navy used the Blue Marlin to transport the destroyer USS Cole back to the United States after the ship was damaged by an al-Qaeda suicide bomber in Aden, a port. In the second half of 2003, the Blue Marlin underwent a refurbishment that resulted in increased capacity and the addition of two retractable thrusters to improve maneuverability.

9. The ship re-entered service in January 2004. Following the improvements, the Blue Marlin delivered a 60,000 tonne Thunder Horse PDQ oil platform to Corpus Christi, Texas.
In July 2005, the Blue Marlin transported the Snohvit refinery from the construction site in Cadiz to Hammerfest in an eleven-day journey. This transportation became the basis of one of the plots of the television show "Extreme Engineering" on the television channel "Discovery Channel", as well as the TV show "Mega Movers", which aired on the "History Channel".
In November 2005, the Blue Marlin departed from Corpus Christi, Texas, to move the maritime X-band radar to Adak, Alaska, via the southern tip. South America and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The vessel arrived at Pearl Harbor on January 9, 2006, having covered 15,000 miles. In January 2007, the Blue Marlin was hired to transport two jack-up rigs, the Rowan Gorilla VI and the GlobalSantaFe Galaxy II, from Halifax to the North Sea.

1. When the need arises to transport a large number of ships, relocate a giant oil platform or bring a damaged warship home, the giant Blue Marlin will be an indispensable aid.

2. When it is necessary to load some oversized cargo onto a transport vessel, first, through 16 kingstons, the ballast tanks are filled with seawater and the vessel is submerged to a depth of 26 meters. This takes about 12 hours, and during this time up to 77,000 tons of water are poured into the tanks.

3. By means of tugs, the cargo is pushed and held above deck level until the semi-submersible vessel is lifted to its normal position.

4. The welder team then attaches the cargo to the metal deck. The positioning of the cargo by divers is checked. Then the water is slowly pumped out and the transport ship takes over the floating cargo. This is where the type of ship comes from, which translates as "lift". The seagoing vessel is built from dense materials and has a very durable hull that allows for ocean crossings.

5. The weight of the ship is 76,000 tons, the area is 11,000 square meters. meters.

6. The ship is equipped with 38 cabins to accommodate 60 people, a warm-up room, a sauna and special floating facilities.

7. Blue Marlin and her twin Black Marlin belong to the class of heavy lift ships. They are owned by a company from Oslo - Offshore Heavy Transport. Built in April 2000 and November 1999, respectively.

It is difficult to surprise ordinary people today with automotive technology, but most people have no idea what incredible cars are in the service of mankind today. Rocket technology is already very far from everyday life, personal aircraft are not yet widespread, and people know even less about ships. Meanwhile, among them there are more than interesting specimens. One of them is the Blue Marlin semi-submersible cargo ship, which was created in the Netherlands.

The first floating giants Marlin appeared back in 2001, and two years later the ships were seriously modernized and adapted for large loads.

The Blue Marlin has everything for a comfortable stay: a gym, a sauna, a swimming pool, and at the same time the ship can transport drilling platforms and destroyers.

In order to load the object on the deck, Blue Marlin goes under the water, turning its own deck into a kind of "floating dock", which itself fits under the load.

The characteristics of the vessel are impressive. Displacement of the ship is 91238 tons. The vessel is 79 meters wide, 275 meters long, and has a draft of 9.5 meters. The cruising speed of the Blue Marlin is 12.9 knots.

When the need arises to transport a large number of ships, relocate a giant oil platform, or bring a damaged warship home, the giant Blue Marlin is an indispensable aid.

We have already mentioned it in the selection of the largest ships. The Blue Marlin is a half-submerged heavy lift vessel designed to transport very large rigs, ships and other cargo. The ship is equipped with 38 cabins to accommodate 60 people, a warm-up room, a sauna and special floating facilities.

Blue Marlin and her twin Black Marlin belong to the class of heavy lift ships. They are owned by a company from Oslo - Offshore Heavy Transport. Built in April 2000 and November 1999 respectively.

The US Navy hired Blue Marlin to ferry the USS Cole Vuyeckschnuk to the United States after it was damaged by an al-Qaeda suicide attack while anchored in the port of Aden, Yemen. During the last revision in 2003, the carrying capacity of the vessel was increased, as well as increased maneuverability and stability.

The vessel re-entered service in January 2004. Following these improvements, Blue Marlin delivered a 60,000 tonne Thunder Horse PDQ oil platform to Corpus Christi, Texas.

In July 2005, Blue Marlin moved the Snewitt gas refinery from its construction site in Cadiz in 11 days. This transport was featured on the Extreme Engineering TV Show on the Discovery Channel, as well as on the Mega Movers program on the Historical Channel.

In November 2005, the ship left Corpus Christi, Texas to relocate the massive X-Group marine radar to Adak, Alaska. The vessel reached Pearl Harbor on January 9, 2006, covering 15,000 miles. In January 2007, Marlin was hired to relocate two rigs from Halifax Harbor to the North Sea.

“Overall, the hotel is not bad, albeit old. BUT there are problems. "

1) The hotel has PERMANENT PROBLEMS WITH LIGHT, it is often NOT! They turn it off in the afternoon for an hour or two, turn it off in the evening at 22:00 and until the morning at 6:30. This is a real problem and very annoying! During outages, neither the equipment nor the wi-fi work, nor the book to read, and just going to the toilet is a problem - because the darkness is like in a cave at night. The owner of the hotel switches the light off and on: that is, if he goes to bed at 22 o'clock, then the guests should too. I went to the reception with this question - they told me about the fire in the hotel and the problems with the generator and how expensive it was ... I asked to turn off the light at least at 24, not 22 hours - they nodded and still turned off at 22 ... In general, like in a camp - the hotel has its own regime! Please bear this in mind. 2) A couple of times there were problems with disconnecting the water. There are also small flaws that did not bother, but just keep this in mind: 3) There is a design solution in the rooms on the walls in view of the holes, there are no nets on them and mosquitoes fly into the room through them. 4) Tulle over the beds and towels in the room and beach towels are very old, washed and with holes. 5) The floors in the room are not washed, the socks immediately turned black. 6) The room does not have a kettle, slippers, hair conditioner and TV (if suddenly it is important to someone). 7) I did not dare to get into the pool, because the water in it is with leaves and looks dirty. 8) There are almost no other restaurants within walking distance.

In general, the hotel is good, albeit small and old and with some drawbacks (I indicated below what caught my eye). The staff are very friendly, welcoming, outgoing and polite. In addition to the floor in the rooms, everything is clean, neat, beautiful. The beach in front of the hotel is cleaned of algae. The entrance to the ocean by the hotel is without stones and corals, even at low tide the sunset is good. Breakfasts are excellent (booked right away with breakfast): à la carte (there is no buffet here), everything is very tasty, fresh, juices and coffee are also excellent. Hotel restaurant right on the beach with great views. We had dinner there for a fee, the choice is not great, but everything is delicious. The hotel has a deposit of 5000 shillings (~ $ 50) per day from the room.

Salt water in the tap. But the lack of a normal water supply is a problem of the entire coast of East Africa.

The hotel is located on the first line in the best part of Diani Beach. Very tasty food in the restaurant. The choice of dishes is small but extremely expertly prepared.

The hotel corresponds to its category completely (3 *). The staff is very polite. The rooms, of course, should be taken overlooking the ocean - quite large, with large verandas-balconies. The room has a hairdryer, air conditioning, a kettle. The bed was with a net, but there were no mosquitoes. Daily cleaning, towels changed daily, gel and Shampoo is added every other day. There are ants in the rooms - they always give sprays for treatment. Doors and windows to the veranda must be closed very well - the monkeys masterfully open all the doors, steal everything, the staff chases the monkeys. The beach and hotel grounds are excellent, sun loungers and beach towels are always available, you can swim all day (and at low tide). Restaurant: we were on FB. They cook deliciously, sometimes you have to wait a little longer, not always all items are available. With FB, an order can consist of 3 dishes (lunch-soup or salad + second + dessert; dinner-salad + main course + dessert, drinks all for an additional fee). WI-FI in the rooms is weak. For relaxation - we recommend! Feature (not applicable to the hotel) - there are a sufficient number of surfers on the beach, most of them observe safety rules, not swimming in the swimming area, but there are isolated individuals who violate safety rules on the water. It's good that surfers are on the water only when there is wind.

Gloomy and not comfortable rooms (in the photo it is lighter and more comfortable), it feels like you are in a cave. Very little light. Most of the Furniture seems to be carved in stone, in general, for an amateur. If you spend a little time in the room, then it’s fine. No TV, which is very sad because the hotel is quiet and TV would be great entertainment.

The hotel is very small, located a couple of steps from the beach (you can swim without paying attention to the ebb / flow). Restaurant at the hotel with delicious cuisine (we still remember the food) We took full board and just ate too much, because it is impossible to resist! Lobster in tomato sauce, luxurious tuna, lobster chowder, shrimp, octopus 🐙, fresh juices for breakfast. There is no buffet system , it is necessary to select items on the menu (lunch dinner: salad or soup, main course and dessert). Excellent cocktails based on natural fresh juices. Price quality. + the main plus is the cuisine and the bathing ocean + beautiful beach 🏖 Russian-speaking owner of the hotel (from Bulgaria), a very pleasant Masai warrior, guarding the hotel from the scourge of battles and monkeys.

"We felt good"

Sometimes they waited for an order for a very long time, especially during lunch. We regretted that they had chosen food 3 times a day, it is better to take 2 times, and have fruit for lunch or go to another cafe. But while waiting, you can admire the ocean - the view is amazing. All drinks (except breakfast) must be paid additionally. When we stopped a few days there was a buffet breakfast. Great, convenient, fast, tasty. But on the third day, a menu system was introduced - the waiting time increased, we no longer saw hot pancakes, only cold or warm ones. Although I even asked for "please hot pancakes" once. Better to return it as it was. The specifics of the decor of the rooms. Kenyan style, at first it seemed that you live in a cave, again it will be a plus for someone, but you have to get used to it. On the third day I already really liked it. Not a perfect renovation, my inner perfectionist suffered sometimes. I would say that the price is overpriced, but we took the hotel during the promotion period, so it was good for us. I advise managers to improve their knowledge of mathematics, otherwise the management will go to the minus :) but we were glad, having paid less than necessary.

We liked! Cozy small hotel - there are not many guests, for us it was a plus (but there are no mass events, entertainment, sports, dancing, as in neighboring hotels). Very quickly you can walk from the room to the beach. The ocean and the beach are gorgeous, I liked the ebb and flow, the view is always different - either like a paradise picture, or the ocean is gone, but cool shells remain. They never stepped on anything or hurt themselves, even if the water was cloudy due to the high tide (but algae can be in the water). We took a full board - very tasty, in 9 days we barely had time to taste all the variety of the menu. The banana split dessert with passion fruit is simply amazing. The portions are huge. We ordered a massage - very high quality, they would have taken more, but they were already leaving (but they do it on the street - it's better to do the massage in the evening). Sometimes monkeys run around in the hotel - you don't need to feed them, but you need to close the windows in the room, they are smart and can climb in. They climbed up to us and ate bananas. The staff is friendly, the coolest guy in the restaurant is Simon (Simon is the best!). There is also a very friendly Masai working on the territory, but I never found out his name. Read bad reviews about the pool. Yes, small. But! It does not blow when it is no longer possible to lie by the ocean. Deep - you can dive. Two lights at night and the water is warm - nice. And the coolest thing is that you can swim even at night, if you have not closed it for cleaning (when we were only closed once late in the evening - usually early in the morning). There are scourge fights, we went on excursions cheaper with them. But if you immediately say that you do not need anything, they will be left behind. There is a cool kite school nearby! We didn't learn anything, but we took a body board to ride the waves. In the states, every child has such a board - it's fun.

Construction site at the hotel. Not warned. They knocked and sawed all day.
