Big stone river. Taganay stone rivers

"Stone rivers" of the South Urals. Version.

We live in the South Urals. Our mountains hold many secrets.

On Taganay and in many other places in the Urals there is an interesting and mysterious phenomenon - "stone rivers", consisting of kurumniks.

The depth of the "stone rivers" is quite large. When you cross it, you can sometimes hear the splash of water flowing somewhere down there. Trees cannot germinate because they do not reach the water. These are the most unique places.

Kurums have ragged, sharp edges and corners, it is difficult to walk on them. As if impaled by someone. Obviously, they do not lie like this for thousands of years, but 200-300, otherwise these sharp edges would have long ago smoothed out, rounded, worn out from the influence of rain, snow, wind. But this does not bother the officials. They only say one thing: hundreds of thousands of years ago, a giant glacier, moving down, crushed rock.

"Stone Rivers" are often horizontal (top photo). In addition, the slopes of all mountains and ridges are also strewn with the same kurums. How could they have formed?

Small Taganay. Feathers.

And if you try to compare the stones on the mountains and in the valleys? Their rock is the same, the stones on the tops and slopes of the mountains lie randomly in placers, they are also sharp, not at all rounded, chaotically located, there is no direction.

Was there a glacier at all? If you look at the Responsive Ridge, it is precisely a ridge with intricate serrated turrets at the top, indented with cracks. Why didn't the giant glacier bring them down, didn't straighten them? After all, the action of the glacier should be smoothing, not crushing. And all the rocks in the cracks seem to be from some kind of impact, impact.

The glacier could not move anywhere. On a horizontal surface, and even with such serious obstacles as these Ural Mountains.

"Stone rivers" of chipped stone in the Urals are everywhere on all our ridges. Many outliers sticking out of the ground are covered with cracks. Moreover, it is clear that these cracks were formed relatively recently, they do not have traces of water and wind erosion, which should be present on stones that have been lying for thousands of years. Chips, sharp edges, not rounded at all. The stones scattered around are fragments of rock. Where did such a huge amount of broken stone come from?

Remains on Mount Antenna on the ridge. Zygalga

All the rocks are covered with cracks, as if someone had punched them with a giant hammer.

There is a version that the Ural Mountains were subjected to massive nuclear or thermonuclear bombardment or some kind of infrasonic bombardment. And this happened 250-300 years ago.

Let's take a look at the Zygalga ridge, for example. This is what Bolshoi Shelom looks like on a satellite image.

Bolshoi Shelom from the satellite

Upstairs, for some reason, is a perfectly flat area. The word "Shelom" itself comes from the word "helmet". And it is not the Bolshoi that looks like a helmet, but Malye Shelomchiks with sharp tops.

Zigalga ridge. Bolshoi Shelom on the right.

Assuming that there was an explosion over Bolshoi Shelom? The shock wave cut off the top, forming an even plateau. And all the nearest mountains within a radius of tens to hundreds of kilometers, depending on the power of the explosion, were covered with crushed stone - kurums.

Zygalga slope as elsewhere in the Urals

It is no secret that these granite deposits on all ridges have an increased radioactive background. And on Bolshoy Shelom there are areas that are quite heavily contaminated with radiation. In the early 90s, someone even died of radiation sickness. Of course, the diagnosis was different, but all the signs were precisely radiation sickness. After that, persistent rumors spread among Chelyabinsk tourists that there was a burial of radioactive waste on Bolshoy Shelom.

On the slopes of the Zigalga, stones are scattered, they lie on top of the ground, that is, these are not rocky outcrops. The picture is the same as near the stone quarries, where explosive mining of stone is being carried out.

It can be seen that the kurums are about the same size. Where did they come from on all slopes in such a huge number? There is no natural reason for this.

Quite often you come across amazing curums with a ribbed surface, like a washboard. There are quite a few of them.

Everything is the same on Iremel. But there is something interesting. On the plateau, if you look closely, rocky outcrops tilted to one side as if the blow was from the side. That is, the shock wave from the explosion came from one side, by the way, just from the direction of Bolshoi Shelom, where the epicenter of the explosion might have been. The stones are raised and turned in one direction.

Iremel plateau.

In addition to large stones on the Iremel plateau, there are many small ones that seem to be stuck either into the ground, or, as in the picture below, into a gap between other stones. As if they had flown in from somewhere and stuck like a knife into butter.

Big stone river in winter

Last week I threw wood in a heated debate about which is cooler - Nikon or Canon. Together with the crew of the My Planet TV channel, he took part in the filming of a film about how I photograph on Nikon. To do this, we went to the Chelyabinsk region. Until a new round of holivar began, I want to tell you about Taganai - the place where our shooting took place.

Taganay is a national park in the northern part of the mountain ranges of the South Urals. I was there for the first time last summer as part of the Russia expedition. I was greatly impressed by the pearl of the park - the Big Stone River. This is a uniform jumble of huge rocky debris that stretches for hundreds of meters and looks very much like a river. A formation similar in size and beauty to stones is known only in India and nowhere else on the globe.

Local residents said that the most beautiful time in Taganai was winter, so as soon as I had a free week, I made an agreement with Moya Planeta and took a ticket to Chelyabinsk. More about everything under the cut ...

My peak on Taganay

Traveling is always a side view of oneself. Maybe they exist not so much to get to know foreign countries as to look at themselves and their lives with different eyes. Trips outside of cities and civilizations, moreover, are very good at reloading and giving new strength.

The other day I took another step towards myself on a trip to the South Urals, to the Taganay National Park as part of a large IzhSplav team. There were more than 50 of us, the youngest participant is only five years old!

A single bike trip in the Middle and South Urals. 2009

The summer of 2009 turned out to be extremely boring, full of monotony and despondency. I lacked new vivid impressions, an emotional explosion and adrenaline in my blood. When the lack of all this, combined with the incessant depression, reached its climax, I was ready to go on a solo bike trip in the Middle and South Urals. I thought that it would take a long time to decide on my own in our inadequate country, because it is quite dangerous, but the circumstances made their own adjustments. It is a pity that there were no volunteers, because the group is both more fun and safer.

Taganay

The Taganai ridge can be called one of the most picturesque corners of the Urals. A real kingdom of rocks and stone rivers, mountain streams and impenetrable taiga and mountain tundra ... Unique in its beauty Mountain country covered with many legends and tales ... Some are attracted by the beauty of the primeval nature Taganay, others are looking for the mysterious oracles of the legendary Hyperborea. The mythical Chud people keep priceless treasures of rare minerals and precious stones in the depths of the Taganai mountains.

The responsive ridge is one of the most beautiful peaks of the Southern Urals. A huge (more than five kilometers in length) rocky ridge rises 500 meters above the surrounding taiga, like the crest of a petrified dragon.

Higher and center point Taganaya - Mount Kruglitsa. With its outlines, it really resembles the rounded crown of the head, which is sometimes crowned with a cap of clouds.

In the rocky saddle between the Otklikny ridge and Kruglitsa is located unusual monument nature - Valley of fairy tales. In the midst of age-old firs, bizarre stone giants rise. These are rocks - remnants, the result of millennial weathering of rocks. Indeed, as if the characters of fairy tales and ancient legends scattered across the valley ...

Taganay ... Unique in its beauty mountainous country with the greatest natural resources, interesting story and still unsolved mysteries.

The Big Stone River is a chaotic jumble of huge boulders lying on the slope of Mount Taganai in the South Urals (Chelyabinsk Region). The stone river with a length of 6 kilometers has an average width of 200 meters, and in some places its width reaches 700 meters.

A giant rock slide is believed to have occurred here during the last glaciation - about 10,000 years ago. Then glaciers covered the tops of the Taganai mountain ranges, reaching a height of 4800 meters. Under the immense weight of the ice, the top of the mountain shattered into millions of large boulders.

When the flight melted, these stones began to slowly slide down the slope, forming the Great Stone River. This geological feature is called a "river" only because it resembles one, but is not really one. The stones have remained motionless for several thousand years.

The river is made up of huge blocks of quartzite (a very strong and durable rock, mostly composed of quartz), including aventurine (a type of quartz containing mica and compounds that give a shimmery and sparkling effect), each weighing up to 9-10 tons. The layer of stones reaches 6 meters.

Interestingly, when approaching the Big Stone River, you can hear the distinct sound of running water. This is the sound of small streams flowing under stone boulders.

The Great Stone River is not the only one on the planet. Similar rivers are found in other regions. Ural mountains as well as abroad.

Outside of Russia, several similar stone rivers can be seen in Bulgaria, in the region mountain range Vitosha. One of the largest stretches for 2 kilometers in length and is located on the subalpine plateau Zlatnite mostove ("Golden Bridges") in the upper reaches of the Vladayska River. Another stone one is located in the valley of the Bistritsa River (Vitoshka Bistritsa River) and reaches 300 meters in width. In addition, there are other stone formations that are on mountain peaks even wider.
