Russian Railways benefits for schoolchildren. How much is a children's train ticket

It will be possible to issue a discount ticket for children aged 10 to 17 both at ticket offices and on the official website of Russian Railways

JSC "Russian Railways" will open the sale of discounted train tickets long distance for children from 10 to 17 years old, according to the press center of Russian Railways.

According to the report, discounts on tickets for schoolchildren are introduced to increase the transport mobility of the population and to popularize domestic tourism. Travel documents with a 50% discount are available for trains departing from June 1 to August 31.
Previously, the right to concessionary travel was granted only during the academic period - from September 1 to May 31. Thus, for the second year already, schoolchildren can take advantage of a 50 percent discount throughout the entire calendar year.

It will be possible to issue a discounted ticket for children between the ages of 10 and 17 inclusive from 8 am on April 3 both at ticket offices and on the official website of Russian Railways. The discount applies to travel in reserved seats, shared carriages, carriages with seats for long-distance trains of the "Fast" and "Passenger" categories. The discount is provided automatically when you specify the "Full" tariff and enter information about children from 10 to 17 years old. When booking tickets, it will be enough to present the child's birth certificate or passport (or information about identity documents).

As the site has already reported, on March 27, Oleg Belozerov, President of Russian Railways, during a meeting with the Russian Prime Minister.

For the first time, JSC Russian Railways provided a 50% discount on travel for children in the summer period (from June 1 to August 31) 2016. During this time, more than 2.5 million children took advantage of the discount. The growth in the number of children transported in the summer of 2016 amounted to about 16% over the same period in 2015. Compensation for the shortfall in income from the provision of these benefits was provided by JSC Russian Railways at the expense of its own resources. In 2016, the shortfall in income of Russian Railways for the provision of a discount amounted to about 2.5 billion rubles, this year - it is expected to be 2.65 billion rubles.

Concessionary travel documents for long-distance trains can also be purchased year-round for children under 5 years old - free of charge (without occupying a separate seat) and from 5 to 10 years old - at a child fare, which is 35% of the full (adult fare).
When boarding the train, the passenger must present a travel document and an identity document (or a notarized copy of a birth certificate for children under 14 years old), on the basis of which the travel document is issued. The child's age is determined on the day the trip starts.

In the conditions of the vast expanses of our country and the completely non-budgetary cost of air travel, parents are interested in the benefits of Russian Railways for schoolchildren. Some children from the Moscow region study at prestigious educational institutions in the capital, and long-distance travel is sometimes more convenient by train than by car. In this material, we will tell you what benefits school students use, how they are issued, and how they are expressed in numbers.

Types of benefits

It's worth starting with the fact that, with a few exceptions, Russian Railways itself does not establish benefits for schoolchildren on its own. All preferences provided to minors are compensated by the regional budget.

  • electric trains;
  • "Peregrine Falcons";
  • long distance trains.

By train

Considering the benefits for the electric train, it is worth highlighting the general rules and individual particulars. Thus, a passenger under 5 years old travels with an adult completely free of charge.

If more than one minor is traveling with an adult, then you will have to pay for his fare already according to the rules that apply to a student under 10 years old, that is, with a savings of 65%. For the rest, the preference for schoolchildren is provided from the age of 7 and is 50% of the cost of buying a ticket.

The purpose of establishing preferential travel for schoolchildren on railroad- to facilitate their delivery to and from educational institutions. Therefore, the general rule was approved that in commuter trains do not operate all year round, only during the period of study.

It should be said that, despite the rather unified practice of establishing benefits across the country, the authorities of some regions understand the recommendations of the Federal Government differently.

Over the past couple of years, funding issues, including for schoolchildren, have become a constant source of controversy.

Regional authorities are convincing that there is no money for it, and whether it is necessary, because most of the children study in one locality.

Therefore, unlike long-distance trains, the situation with privileges for electric trains across the country is diverse.

Locally, they not only shorten the validity period of discounts, but also establish additional conditions for using them.

So, in the Voronezh region, it was decided to retain the right of reduced travel only for children from. They will have to confirm their status with a certificate from the social department. protection.

You can talk as much as you like about the moral and ethical component of this problem, but in fact, now a schoolchild from the Voronezh region, traveling in a group of peers, in order to receive a discount will have to confirm the unenviable social status of the family. Not the most comfortable state.

In the Tver region, benefits are not established at all, and in Crimea, only schoolchildren with local registration enjoy a 50% discount. There are regions where privileges are given to orphans who have been left without parental care or who have lost their breadwinner.

To the "Sapsan"

Sapsan is a high-grade railway rolling stock. Comfortable conditions and a wide range additional services makes this train one of the most popular of its kind.

But here, too, there are discounts for schoolchildren. As with regular trains, children under the age of 5 use it free of charge.

For schoolchildren under the age of 10 (including happy birthday) there is a 65% discount. Schoolchildren over 10 years old have the right to purchase tickets for tariff plan Junior.

The RJ decree will reduce the discount, but it will still be possible to save 30% of the standard fare. This preference can be used not only by schoolchildren, but also by students under the age of 21.

If a ticket for Sapsan is purchased in advance (60 days before the intended trip), then the discount will increase. The minimum price starts at 699.80 rubles.

Long-distance trains

Previously, discounts on long-distance trains were provided only during the training period. In recent years, with the introduction of special offers from Russian Railways, parents have the opportunity to purchase tickets at a discount almost all year round.

Discounts on Russian Railways tickets for 2018

It should be said right away that when assessing the cost of a ticket for long-distance trains, one should proceed from what type of rolling stock is chosen, the age of the minor and the destination. The discount on travel on the train for schoolchildren will give a discount from 50 to 100%.

Fare for children under 5 years old

Children under the age of 5 (including their fifth birthday) have the right to travel with an adult for free. This benefit applies to only one baby. A small passenger should not occupy a separate seat.

If more than one heir is traveling with a parent, then the second and subsequent ones are subject to the 65% discount rule.

Russian Railways ticket fares for children aged 5-10 years

Children aged 5 to 10 also enjoy benefits, but travel is no longer free. Depending on the selected type of rolling stock and direction, the discount will be from 35 to 65% percent of the fare.

Like passengers under 5 years old, they can only move when accompanied by an adult. It is impossible to buy a ticket for a passenger under 10 years old without purchasing an adult ticket (or having one purchased earlier for the same time).

Ticket prices for children over 10 years old

Children over 10 years old can enjoy up to 50% discount by providing a certificate from school during the school period.

The discount is provided for travel in reserved seat carriages, common and with seats, following Russian territory or transit through Russia.

The discount does not apply to fast rolling stock 701-788 numbering in the period from 01.01 to 31.05, from 1.09 to 31.12.

Does the benefit apply to compartment seats

One passenger under 5 years old can travel in a compartment free of charge if he does not occupy a separate seat.

A 65% discount for travelers under 10 years old in the summer gives travel both in a reserved seat and in a compartment, with a birth certificate. In the latter case, there are some exceptions.

So, does not apply summer discount for travel in a compartment for minors under the age of 10 on trains No. 145/146 Moscow-Nazran.

Children over 10 years old will not be able to take advantage of the discount for traveling in a compartment, but they can travel unaccompanied.

How the size of the benefit has changed over the past 3 years

Since 2016, there have been some changes. Thus, in some regions, mass benefits for schoolchildren on train tickets for all school-age children were canceled.

Only schoolchildren from low-income families, who are able to confirm this with a certificate, remained on the list of beneficiaries.

Somewhere on the contrary, all schoolchildren began to use them, even regardless of registration at the place of residence. In this case, Moscow can serve as an example. Here, every student, regardless of where he came from, can enjoy a 50% discount on travel by train.

Another pleasant novelty of recent years is the benefits for children on railway tickets for long-distance trains in the summer.

Summer discounts

By general rule discounts on electric trains and long-distance trains are established exclusively for the period of study. However, since 2016, Russian Railways, on its own initiative, has introduced a program for providing benefits to schoolchildren in the summer for long-distance and intercity trains.

Thanks to it, children under the age of 10 to 17 receive 50% savings on vacation travel. This is done in order to reduce the financial burden on the family's budget during the vacation period.

Thanks to this promotion, up to 500 thousand schoolchildren can annually use discounted tickets to travel on vacation with their parents.

This action also worked in 2018. It is premature to give accurate forecasts for 2019, but according to the available information, the promotion will work in the next vacation season.

A pleasant plus is that in order to use this promotion, it is enough to provide a birth certificate or passport of a child (who has reached the age of 14). A certificate from an educational institution is not required.

For trains traveling in transit through the Russian Federation, train benefits for schoolchildren are provided within the limits of travel within the Russian Federation.

Rules for obtaining benefits

Russian Railways benefits for children are provided according to simple rules, as follows:

  • Only one child can be taken in for free.
  • If the child's birthday comes on the way, then the ticket is bought based on his age on the day of departure.
  • You can purchase a ticket with discounts both in person and when booking online.
  • References on the basis of which discount tickets, you need to have with you when boarding the train and throughout the journey.

Where to register

If we are talking about a preschooler, then there will be no special decorations. To buy a ticket, the birth certificate of the junior passenger and the identity document of the adult buying the ticket are enough.

If we are already talking about a student, then before buying a ticket, you will have to take a certificate from an educational institution that the child is studying there.

In order to avoid the use of the privileges of a schoolchild by minors who have already graduated from the final class, a rule has been established to present a certificate of entitlement to benefits for students over 14 years of age.

What documents are needed

In most regions, in order to receive a child ticket, it is enough to present:

  • identity document (passport or birth certificate);
  • a certificate from an educational institution.

The certificate has a standard form and must contain information:

  • Name and address of the educational institution;
  • Surname, name and patronymic of the student;
  • Official seal of the educational institution.

For a preferential vacation trip to intercity trains a birth certificate or passport is sufficient.

Travel discounts are provided for disabled children

People with disabilities, especially children, are a weakly protected social category of the population. For this reason, federal legislation has established additional benefits for them, which apply not only to themselves, but also to accompanying persons, without which they cannot move.

In addition to the general benefits described above, disabled minors are entitled to:

  • Enjoy 50% savings on travel to railway transport in the period from 1.10 to 15.05. once in the direction there and back, the rest of the time, get a 50% discount on travel in rail transport, which will not cancel other discounts as for schoolchildren at other times. So, if during the period in addition to the above, the discount for other children is less than 50%, then the disabled person will be able to travel once with a 50% discount, and then use the general one.
  • Once a year, travel to the place of treatment and back free of charge.

Benefits also apply to persons accompanying children - and.

The state provides for benefits for schoolchildren on train tickets in 2018. It consists in providing a discount when buying a ticket for long-distance and short-distance trains. But you can take advantage of the privilege if certain conditions are met.

When can you take it for free?

Children under 5 years of age have the right to free travel without a separate bed. But this does not relieve parents of the need to purchase a ticket. It is issued when purchasing a ticket for an adult, subject to the presentation of a birth certificate for a small family member.

Parents can only bring one child free of charge. The trip of the second and subsequent will have to be paid at the current rates, regardless of the fact that passengers have not reached 5 years of age. But not at full cost, but with a discount provided for a child aged 5 to 10 years

Benefits for children aged 5 to 10

Children between the ages of 5 and 10 can only travel on the trains if accompanied by an adult. The ticket is purchased separately, but at a discount. It ranges from 35% to 65%, depending on the class of the train and the chosen carriage.

The discount applies to trips within the country. If you travel to the CIS, the rates may differ. But in any case, there are benefits for children, so parents do not have to pay the full ticket price for transporting small family members.

You can buy a child ticket at the station ticket office after presenting a birth certificate. The purchase is also available for online reservations. But in this case, the travel voucher comes only with an adult - you should take this into account when planning a group trip.

Persons under 10 years of age travel in a luxury carriage on domestic trains free of charge. But they will have to share the same place with their mother or father.

Benefits for schoolchildren on the commuter train

School benefits apply to the purchase of tickets for travel by "swallow" (electric train). They are determined by regional authorities and depend on the policy of the constituent entity of the Russian Federation. In most regions, there is a 50% discount for schoolchildren on ticket purchases. The discount is valid from September 1 to June 15 (in some areas until June 30).

Features of the benefit:

  • in some regions, schoolchildren pay the full cost of the train ticket (for example, in the Tver region);
  • may apply both to all schoolchildren and to persons who have a residence permit in a certain region (for example, in Crimea, a discount is provided only to local residents, and in Moscow - regardless of the region of registration);
  • in some regions, you can purchase a monthly subscription with a 50% discount.

To receive benefits, you will need to provide a certificate from the school. Children over 7 years old can travel by train without an adult within the region.

The relevance of the benefits for the federal authorities remains in doubt. It is planned to cancel it due to the lack of demand for electric trains. Many regions want to abandon this type of railway transport.

For trips on Sapsan

Since 2016, Russian Railways has introduced a new tariff schedule for schoolchildren and students. Children between the ages of 10 and 21 can receive a 30% discount on the Sapsan high-speed train pass. The tariff is valid from September 1 to May 31 inclusive.

The Junior fare applies to the purchase of tickets for economy, economy + and business class carriages. You can buy tickets at the ticket office of the station and on the official website of Russian Railways.

Long-distance trains

Federal legislation provides for a discount for schoolchildren on train tickets in the form of a 50% discount. It has several features:

  • valid from September 1 to June 15;
  • applies to schoolchildren over the age of 10 (up to this age, parents buy a child ticket);
  • to receive benefits, you need a certificate confirming the status of a student;
  • the certificate must be with you at the time of purchase of the ticket and for the entire period of the trip;
  • if the passenger is already 14 years old, then, together with the certificate, he must present a statement that determines the right to the benefit;
  • children over 14 years old are required to present a passport.

In summer, the benefit is not valid. This is due to the fact that many are making an attempt to deceive the staff of the station, passing off their child as a student after graduation.

Summer discounts

Since 2016, parents can buy a ticket for a child for long-distance trains, not only during the period of study. For two years in a row, Russian Railways has provided a 50% discount when paying for travel for children aged 10 to 17. The promotion is valid from June 1 to August 31.

The purpose of this action was to increase the number of children on vacation. Because long-distance travel traumatizes parents' budgets, many are reluctant to take vacations together. Thanks to a special “summer” benefit, schoolchildren and students can only pay half the cost of the trip.

Advice. You can take advantage of the discount when you actually buy tickets at the station or advance booking 60 days in advance. To do this, when placing an order, you must indicate the age of the child.

A special feature of the action is that there is no need to present a certificate from the school. To get a discount, the child (parent) just needs to show a birth certificate or passport.

The promotion was valid in 2016 and 2017. It is now projected to be extended until 2019.

How to use the benefit

To purchase a discounted school ticket, you need to follow a series of steps:

  1. Get a student's certificate for travel on the train. If the child has already turned 14 years old (or will be fulfilled on the date of the trip), then a certificate of entitlement to a benefit in an educational institution is additionally drawn up.
  2. At the checkout, present a student's birth certificate (passport) and a certificate.
  3. Save certificates until the end of the trip - they will be requested by the train conductors.

The certificate is drawn up by the director of the school according to the model and has a unified form containing information:

  • Full name and date of birth of the student;
  • Full name of the school director;
  • details of the educational institution;
  • the essence of the certificate (it is indicated that the applied child is attending school);
  • the seal and signature of the director.

The certificate is valid for one academic year. But in some cases, the station may require a fresh document received no more than a month ago. This information should be clarified in advance.

Predictions for 2018

In 2018, no changes are forecasted in the provision of benefits for school-age children. Parents will also receive a 65% and 50% discount on a baby under 10 and a student, respectively.

The "Summer Holidays" campaign, which implies the provision of discounts in the summer to all minors, is also planned to be launched before the vacation season.

According to analytical data, the “summer” rate significantly increases the number of schoolchildren traveling. According to forecasts, for the period from June 1 to August 31, 2018, over 500 thousand adolescents and toddlers will use the Russian Railways service.

Parents of schoolchildren are entitled to a privilege, which consists in providing a discount of up to 65% on the purchase of railway tickets. There are several different tariffs: for electric trains, long-distance trains, high-speed trains. Reducing the cost of a travel pass is provided for each of the listed types of transport. To reduce the price, you will need to provide a certificate from the educational institution and a document proving the identity of the small passenger.
