A unique place in Kamchatka.
Quiet and picturesque bay, where during the war, convoys with cargo under Lend-Lease were formed from the USA and Canada to Vladivostok.
And in the peaceful there were real "drunken" flights to passenger liners with concerts in local restaurant.

1. The bay was first surveyed at the end of the 18th century.
The entrance to it seems very small, and is almost invisible from the vastness of the Pacific Ocean.

2. Elongated and narrow.
There are almost no waves and wind, which are stopped by the hills.
Since ancient times, the Itelmens lived here, who called the Akhomten Bay.
Almost ten kilometers in depth and a depth of over 26 meters allow ships of almost any size to enter here.

3. Favorable conditions attracted merchant and military ships.
Once there was a whole village here, where there was even a restaurant.
In a calm atmosphere, ships redistributed cargo, formed caravans, waited out storms and prepared supplies.
There are also funny stories about "drunken" flights in the Soviet years, when 100-200 people were taken to the bay from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky on pleasure liners to walk around and drink wine.
And nowadays only two rusty skeletons of the ships "Ryleev" and "Uda" remain near the coast. They are, apparently, for a convenient "parking".

4.

5. More recently, a base of local border guards was located here, but with the development of technology, the physical presence of people is no longer required.

6. Although some houses are standing.
Judging by the boats next to them, most likely poachers are resting here now.

7. Anchored near the rusty giant.

8. See how incredibly beautiful the turquoise water is ..

9. The first group parachutes ashore to the gently sloping pebble beach.

10. Now I am.
I was tempted to climb everywhere, but I was afraid to get my boots wet.

11. Shore.
Slippery and colored Kamchatka pebbles.
I typed, of course ..

12. Bigger stones.

13. And huge boulders of almost even shape.
Conspiracy theorists and researchers of ancient civilizations will clearly see the remains of some kind of foundation here.

14. And I saw only the amazing beauty of the imagination.
Absolute silence bright sun, smooth surface of water and huge hills. Like some fjord in Norway, only your own, sincere.

15. So I would have climbed onto this stone and sat, sat ...

16. Already throughout June, and the snow is still lying.
The impressionable one can find traces of a bear on it. Bears love to walk here - and the grass grows delicious, and even some fish can be thrown ashore.
Therefore, we walk only together.

17. Greetings to my friend Lvovich!

18. Hooligans!

19. By the way, there is a steady sea smell at the coast, mixing with the scent of algae.
We breathe deeper!

20. A whole pasture of fry shells!

21. A little further ashore - plants.
Moss and greenery do not hesitate to sit right on the rocks.

22. Well, after all, it's a miracle!

23. By the way, ships arriving here took drinking water through these pipes.
From the mountains, a natural spring with insanely clean and tasty water goes straight into the bay.
Fresh water here is a real strategic reserve, the volumes of which are estimated at 3 million tons per year.
I wanted to get on board through the pipes, but did not dare.

24. The structure is shaking, and the base is already well rotted.
And I have children ...

25.

26. The third bell rings on the boat.
Time to board. The boat is leaving for us.

27. A couple of hours here fly by like one magical moment.
Pictures are unique, wherever you turn your head.

28. I would like not to take my eyes off, absorbing every white slope, every green spot on the shore, catching the salty wind and warm rays of the sun.

29. The secret entrance to the rock? ..

30. A little more, and now you can see the "Russian" lighthouse at Cape Vhodnoye.
It seems small, but in fact it is 8 meters high.

31. Behind it, a panorama of Cape Kekurny opens, where a family of sea lions is now splashing around.

32. On the left, Cape Bezymyanny drops off into the sea with steep cliffs.

33. Another couple of minutes, and you are again in the mighty and endless Pacific Ocean ...
Goodbye, Russian, I hope we'll see you again ...

Avacha Bay is considered one of the most beautiful and convenient harbors on the Pacific coast near the Kamchatka Peninsula.

The city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky rises on the northern coast of the bay. Due to the fact that military bases of the Russian Navy are located in the city, the bay is closed, and special permission is required for sea trips.

At the entrance to the bay there are the famous rocks, the so-called "Three Brothers", which are considered a symbol of the bay and the nearby town.

The bay resembles a circle in shape and goes into the depths of the peninsula for twenty kilometers. It is well protected from natural disasters, since it is connected to the ocean by a rather narrow strait. The coasts of the bay are of volcanic origin. Its coastline is riddled with small coves. Two rivers flow into the bay: Avacha and Paratunka.

A beautiful view of three volcanoes opens from here: Vilyuchinsky, Avachinsky and Koryaksky.

Russkaya bay

South of the mouth of the Avachinskaya Bay, the shores of Kamchatka are rugged, rocky, indented by fjord bays, one more beautiful than the other: Salvation, Bolshaya and Malaya Sarannye, Dangerous, Vilyuchinskaya, Zhirovaya, Falshivaya, Russkaya ...

Until 1952, the Russian Bay was listed as Akhomten on the maps - this is how its name sounds in the language of the Itelmen. For eight kilometers, a water corridor runs into the coast of one and a half kilometers wide. The banks are high, steep, avalanche-prone. Many streams and rivers run down the troughs and creeks. Shrubs cling to the slopes with their roots: dense dark green cedar - dwarf cedar and light green alder, Kamchatka mountain ash, decorated in autumn with orange clusters of large berries. During the short Kamchatka summer, the grasses grow here one and a half human height - it is easy to get lost in them, as in the densest forest.

The bay is famous for its unique drinking water. Flowing from numerous underground sources, fresh water is collected in the bed of a narrow river. From there, it goes through a pipeline to ships, which, before a long voyage, come here to fill their tanks with the purest and surprisingly tasty water.

Russian is a bearish corner in the most literal sense. Clubfoots are frequent guests here, especially during the salmon spawning season. At the entrance to the bay, near Cape Kekurny, there is a rookery of sea lions - Pacific eared seals. In the waters of the Russkaya one can often see predatory killer whales.

Located in the southwest of Avacha Bay, Russkaya Bay remains an unchanged item in the program of visits by tourists from all over the world. Until 1952, it was marked on maps under the old name, rooted in the Itelmens - Akhomten.

Russkaya Bay lies 40 miles south of the exit from Avacha Bay. The coordinates of the entrance are 52 ° 26'N and 158 ° 30'E. To the right of the entrance is the Tikhirka bay, into which the river of the same name flows into.

The history of the bay

For the first time, the survey of the bay was carried out in 1790 by the sergeant of geodesy A. Gilev. At that time, Gilev was engaged in the description of the areas of the Avacha Bay, and its first measurements were included in his work. Later, in 1830, the studies were continued by Captain P. Ilyin. Based on his notes, he sketched an individual map for the Akhomten Bay, which was later used in compiling new card Kamchatka, which was published in 1851.

In the 1920s, Ahomten was explored by the Swedish botanist Eric Hulten, a member of the Swedish-Kamchatka expedition. He carried out geodetic surveys, which later formed the basis for the map of the southern half of Kamchatka.

Until the 1930s, Akhomten served as a temporary staging area for ships in unfavorable weather. During the Great Patriotic War The Russkaya Bay became one of the main points for the formation of entire caravans of transport cargo ships en route to Vladivostok from Canada and the United States with a special strategic purpose.

In the post-war period, in the 70s, the bay was actively used for refueling ships with fresh water, weapons for fishing, changing crews. In those years, there was an active development of the fishing industry.

Attractions and wealth of the bay

One of the most beautiful bays on the east coast of Kamchatka. It is narrow, deep and long, with steep, steep banks overgrown with elfin trees. Its width is 1300 m in the middle part, and its length is almost 10 000 m (from Cape Vhodnoe to the mouth of the Russkaya River). The depth is 26 m. The low-lying shores, located in the depths of the bay, are rich in shrubs and herbaceous plants, flowers, wild garlic, mountain ash, wild rose and cranberries. Quiet and cozy, Russkaya Bay is famous for its peaceful welcome, even when the ocean rages and the scorching northern winds blow.

Russkaya Bay is famous for its deep-sea fishing. Here you can have a real fish feast. Fishing takes place on flounder, halibut, perch, cod, navaga, etc. From the bottom you can get sea urchins and crabs.

The steep shores of the bay are inhabited by numerous colonies of birds (hatchets, ducks, cormorants, gulls, puffins), and the entrance to it is guarded by hundreds of sea lions, which arranges an annual rookery at Cape Kekurny. The most welcome guests in the bay there are herds of killer whales and whales, which are annually observed in these waters. Cutting the waters of the Pacific Ocean with their black fins, they come here for a feast, which invariably delights observers.

Brown bears are also frequent guests here. Clubfoot, especially during the salmon spawning period, often visit the shores of the bay.

The Russkaya Bay is famous for its reserves of unique fresh water, which speaks not only of its picturesqueness, but also of its useful component. A strategic reserve of clean water, marked with a special taste, can retain its properties and freshness for months while in ship's tanks. According to some reports, this phenomenon is due to the large amount of silver ions in its composition.

The water source is located at an altitude of 600 m above sea level. Water, originating in numerous underground springs, is collected in the bed of a small river, and from there, through a small pipeline, it passes into the tanks of ships, which in the 30s of the XX century came here to refuel before their long voyage.
