Well, now about everything in more detail.

What does Cornish mean?

In a number of languages, it is customary to use this word to denote a road that first rises up a mountain and then descends from it. Has a French origin, "route a corniche", which can be translated as "ledge road".

There are a lot of Corniches all over the world, several of them are located in the United Arab Emirates: Buheira Corniche in Sharjah, Deira Corniche and Jumeirah Corniche in Dubai.

In this article, we will tell you about the Cornish, which is located in Abu Dhabi.

It's funny that none of the listed roots are located on the side of a mountain or hill. Perhaps the Arabs just like the word itself!

To get there, you need to travel to the northwest part of the city. The place between the Hilton Abu Dhabi hotel and the Old Fish Market will be the root.

If you are in the emirate itself, you can take the bus for 2 dirhams. Several flights run right along the embankment.

If flights 007, 009, 011 and 032 pass by your hotel, you can take them to Al Marina Island, and from there you can walk to the beach in 20 minutes.

You can get to. The fare will depend on how far your hotel is from the Corniche.

If you have your own car, use it - there is a parking near the beach. You will pay 10 dirhams per day.

Excursions to the Corniche

Many excursions in Abu Dhabi are built in such a way as to drive along this promenade, but this is not the best option, because buses do not stop there. And when you see the azure waves of the beach, you will surely want to take a dip, as well as visit the local entertainment, so it is better to get there yourself.

Schedule

The beach begins to receive guests from 7 am. You can swim until sunset. Many restaurants on the coast are open until 4 am, or even around the clock.

Paid parts of the beach accept guests until 10 pm.

A bit of history

Many years ago, even when the country was living thanks to the export of pearls, its miners lived here.

Later, when the country began to produce oil, thanks to the stunning views, this part of the city was taken away for building. expensive hotels for businessmen and rich people who came from other countries. Then there was no trace of the embankment.

In 2002 it was decided to build that very embankment. Two companies got down to business: Canadian LANDinc and Parsons International. They had to bring about 50 hectares of land, build a road and plant trees. It is hard to believe that such a huge territory was artificially created by human hands!

In 2011, Corniche Abu Dhabi received the Blue Flag - an international award given to beaches for the cleanest and most sustainable water - and still holds onto it.

The beach is divided into 5 areas:

The first one is intended for families with children. Single men are not allowed there. For the convenience of tourists, the territory is fenced. Admission is paid: adults pay 10 dirhams, children under 12 - 5 dirhams.

West Plaza area- suitable for absolutely everyone, free admission.

Al Sahil Beach- also suitable for everyone, although paid. The issue price is 10 dirhams for an adult and 5 dirhams for a child under 12 years old.

East Plaza Beach- another free beach, suitable for everyone, like Western Extention Beach.

The order on the beach is monitored by the BAKE company, they charge an entrance fee for paid beaches, rent towels, umbrellas and sun loungers for 10, 25 and 25 dirhams, respectively. However, if you have your own towel, you can spread it out and sit right on it, no one will forbid you to do this.

There are a large number of sun loungers on the beach, there are places to change clothes and take a shower. You do not need to pay for visiting the latter.

Also, if necessary, you can look into one of the nearby shops and buy yourself additional beach accessories.

The depth here is not very great, a little more than one and a half meters. A few tens of meters from the coast there is a line marked by buoys - it cannot be crossed.

There are always rescuers on land.

On the beach you can see many manicured flower beds, mowed lawns and palm trees. You can buy a soft drink and relax in the shade.

For lovers of comfort

If you don't feel like hustling around in a public place, two local clubs will provide you with their services. One of them, the Nation Riviera club, located in the St Regis Abu Dhabi hotel, has its own fenced-off beach, swimming pool, fitness room and restaurant. One person will pay $ 54 for a one-day visit, and $ 81 for two.

The second is "Hiltonia Beach Club"- also equipped with its own own beach... The entrance fee is 200 dirhams on weekdays and 290 on weekends. After 15:00, couples can buy a ticket for as little as AED 140.

Entertainment on the waterfront

One way to get around the beach is by bike. The rental office is located in its western part, near the Hiltonia Beach Club. Here you can find both mountain and urban models, however, rental is quite expensive: adults pay 30 dirhams, children - 20. Thus, it is more convenient to take a taxi.

We recommend visiting Family Water Park - a great place to relax with the whole family. Water slides, as such, you will not find there, but there are fountains under which you can run and just walk - believe me, your children will appreciate it!

It is allowed to sit on the lawns for a picnic, but you cannot start a fire.

There is a special open area, where various events, including contests for children, are held, broadcast important events on the big screen, as was the case during the Formula 1 Grand Prix. As a rule, all events are free.

It is interesting that this particular embankment is used for military marches: here you can find an amazing variety military equipment, including guns from Russia, France and Ukraine, admire the military units and cavalry on horseback and camels.

They are still in the army, but practically do not participate in hostilities.

At the end of March, you can visit the so-called "Mother of the Nation" festival, organized by Her Majesty Saheena Fatima Bint Mubarak. Children will especially like the event: you can jump from a bungee, take part in contests and master classes, visit attractions and swim in the pool. You have to pay for the entrance to the event.

Admire the skyscrapers

Not far from the embankment there are skyscrapers that have become business card United Arab Emirates. Among them we can name ADNOC - here is located big company for oil production. The building is 342 meters high and looks very impressive: black glass walls framed with white frames.

The second skyscraper - Etihad Tower - on one of its upper floors is observation deck Observation Deck at 300.

Opening hours: from 10:00 to 18:00. The ticket price is 75 dirhams.

There are two more interesting skyscrapers over 250 meters high on the Corniche embankment. At a height of 202.5 meters, there is a bridge connecting them. One of the towers houses the hotel with its own cinema, spa and fitness center. A night in such luxury costs $ 25,000. You will not be able to book a room through regular sites.

Where to go to eat

On the embankment you can find a huge number of restaurants and cafes, the cuisine is mainly Italian, Japanese and, of course, Arabic. In the same place, nearby, you can find ordinary McDonalds and even an ordinary supermarket.

  1. Not far from the Corniche there is another local attraction - the island of Al Marina: there is a large Ferris wheel, shopping center, a giant flagpole with the country's flag and many more interesting places worth visiting, given that you can get there in 15 minutes.
  2. Better to worry about comfortable shoes and clothes, because you have to walk a lot.
  3. Not far from the embankment there is another attraction - the Emirates Palace hotel, if possible, be sure to look there.
  4. Many cafes and restaurants accept only Arab dirhams, so it is best to change your currency in advance.
