Buying tickets for a Thai Airways flight

Tickets for this flight were bought in a devilish haste, the day before departure, and cost 37,060 rubles, although the standard cost is about 5 thousand rubles cheaper. Fare type: economy class with 30 kg of free baggage. By the way, Thai Airways is the only airline that makes direct flights to Auckland from Bangkok. If you fly with connections, you can get there for almost a penny - at Air Asia, when looking for air tickets per month, the price for this flight is only ~ 10,000 rubles one way + additional baggage charge! So, if the fact that the flight duration will almost double due to the docking in Kuala Lumpur does not bother you, then for the sake of economy, you can choose this option. I needed to get there as quickly as possible, so I had to pretty much unfasten the cache. Aviasales helped to find the cheapest tickets; on other aggregator sites and the official website of the airline, it was published, albeit not globally, but more expensive.

Thai Airways check-in

Departure took place from the main airport of Bangkok - Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK). It is worth noting that due to the importance of the company, the airport is filled with entire zones allocated to this air carrier, where you can do everything from buying tickets to checking in for a flight exclusively at a specific counter. The plane is a large Boeing 777-300 for 364 passengers. Seating for 3 seats in 3 rows.

I tried to carry out online check-in for the flight, because ended up at the airport 7 hours before departure, but on the Thai Airways website, according to the selected fare, only seats were offered near the aisle or in the middle, and even then closer to the back of the plane. This prospect did not smile at me, so it was decided to check in for the flight at the airline's counter and ask the operator to sit me at the window. This scheme works almost always, well, unless you are flying some kind of Victory - if possible, in most cases they will go to a meeting and put you wherever you want.

By the way, there is free wi-fi at Suvarnabhumi Airport. In order to connect, you will have to register, indicating your email and passport data. It is given for exactly 2 hours, but there is a small life hack! As soon as the time runs out, you can re-register with other passport data, but the email you still need to indicate the valid one - it contains information with a login / password to connect. But, something we digress, let's move on to the flight review. 🙂

Food on board Thai Airways

The boarding of the flight was delayed by about an hour; an airline representative went out twice to those who were waiting to apologize for the delay. The flight itself lasted about 11 hours and took place at night.

The flight review will be primarily devoted to the important point during the trip by air: food on board, or rather, serving dinner and, in my case, breakfast. 🙂 By the way, if you are flying first or business class, then when online registration you can choose your meals on board in advance.

After landing, about an hour later, passengers were given disposable towels, after a while they were given individual portions of cashew nuts and drinks, among which were non-alcoholic (water, juices - apple, orange and tomato, soda) and alcoholic (beer, whiskey, White wine).

Dinner

Dinner was served about 40 minutes later.

The choice was: steamed fish with vegetables, chicken with rice and a vegetarian option - baked vegetables. I chose the first option.
What is noteworthy, in parallel with serving trays with dinner, the staff at the same time carried the entire salon to the trash and indulged in sodomy hot (!) Bread, represented by portioned buns (wheat or barley, to choose from), and bottled water without gas.

Main dish
Presented with boiled vegetables (potatoes, carrots and broccoli) and steamed fish with a creamy cheese sauce with herbs. Everything is too healthy, and therefore moderately tasty.

Cold snacks
They were presented with a salad of seaweed and soy meat (quite spicy, but tasty), portioned processed cheese with mushrooms, butter and crackers in an individual package (three pieces in each).

Dessert
For dessert, there was a decent slice of lemon cheesecake. And to it hot drinks - you could choose between tea or coffee, with the ability to add sugar or cream to taste.

Each tray has been complemented by pepper, salt, wet and dry napkins and cutlery as per the standards.

Breakfast

About three and a half hours before boarding, it was breakfast time.
The morning meal was also presented in several variations to choose from: nipples with an omelette, a slice of potato casserole and fresh tomatoes, or fried potato slices with sausage and beans. I took the first combo set. In addition, there was probably a vegetarian option, but it was not voiced this time. As before, passengers were offered bottled water and hot bread to choose from - a croissant or a sandwich bun.

Main dish
Chicken sausage wrapped in an omelet is quite worthy of attention. The potato casserole played a secondary role due to its size, but it was not superfluous.

Cold snacks
This time they were presented in a more varied form. The set included fresh fruit (a slice of apple, pamels, pineapple, pears and grapes), yogurt, Multifruit juice, strawberry jam and butter.

After that, the ritual with hot drinks was repeated again, as in the previous time. There were no changes in equipment with devices, spices and napkins.

My impressions of the flight were extremely positive. Below there are ratings for different categories with comments.

Airplane - 9 out of 10
The aircraft is large, modern, with a comfortable seat spacing, even in economy class. The chairs are equipped with a special footrest that allows you to change the position at least a little during the entire journey.
Among other things, it is possible to watch films, listen to music, participate in a virtual guide to the city-destination. If necessary, you can charge your electronic devices - the socket is located under the chair. Each passenger is given disposable headphones, a pillow and a blanket.

Crew - 10 out of 10
There are no claims to the crew. They work in a well-coordinated and organized manner. It is worth noting the lack of deliberate courtesy, which sometimes makes you feel uncomfortable.

Meals - 8 out of 10
In general, I liked everything, but for my personal taste, sometimes the food seemed either undersalted or oversalted. I was surprised by the presence of spicy food (salad), which not everyone will like. Among other things, yoghurt is high altitude- this is a rather dangerous enterprise, so be careful when opening the package.

Boarding pass fee at the check-in counter

  • The fee is collected at the time of check-in for a UIA flight at the airport of departure from each economy class passenger once for the provision of a boarding pass (s) to the final destination on the route or for the return flight, if the time between the arrival of the previous flight and the departure of the next flight is no more than 48 hours.
  • The boarding pass fee is equivalent to 15 EUR.
  • NOTE: until the passenger pays the fee for providing a boarding pass, UIA reserves the right to change the amount of this fee at any time unilaterally without any notification. The fee is collected upon the provision of the service and is non-refundable.

Boarding passes are provided free of charge at the check-in counter:

  • passengers of charter flights;
  • passengers on flights from Beijing and Colombo;
  • Business class and Economy Premium class passengers;
  • passengers who have paid for an increase in the level of comfort of air travel;
  • passengers registered online with boarding passes printed / stored in their mobile electronic devices in case of selecting paid seats at the airport of departure;

  • only at Boryspil Airport (KBP) - passengers who, during online check-in for a flight to Canada, were unable to receive a boarding pass for flight PS241 Kiev-Toronto due to the need to arrive at the check-in counter for additional document checks through the Canadian immigration authorities.

NOTE: If passengers were transferred to UIA flights from flights of other airlines, they must pay the fee for providing a boarding pass.

Passengers who have ordered special services (transportation of animals, weapons), children under 16 who travel unaccompanied by adults, passengers with disabilities must come to the check-in counter in advance to go through the necessary formalities. If a passenger belonging to one of the above categories does not have a printed or stored boarding pass (s) in a mobile device, some airports will be charged a fee established by UIA for providing a boarding pass.

Online check-in for UIA flights is available in 14 days before departure for Business Class and Economy Premium Class passengers, as well as passengers who have made a preliminary selection of seats in the cabin and paid for the service. Passengers who are traveling in Economy Class and have not used the preselection of seats on board can check in online:
