The territory of the island of La Digue is 3 km wide and 5 km long in the western part of the Seychelles archipelago.

The nearest large island is Praslin, located just 6 km away, while the distance to Mahe Island is 43 km.

You can get to La Diga either by boat or by helicopter from the same Praslin and Mahe.

Dinner for two in a restaurant from 45 EUR (with dessert), in an ordinary cafe without status, but do not worry, it is extremely problematic to get poisoned with something, from 12 EUR for the same two persons. I preferred the local TakeAway, for me - either already really have dinner in some pretentious place and relax luxuriously, or choose tasty and economical.

Local beer SeyBrew tastes very good, I speak like a person who does not drink beer at all, and Seychelles goes well, I even miss its taste, bottle 1.67 EUR. Bottles from it can be returned at the expense of buying a new one, of course the return is minimal, somewhere around 0.15 EUR, but it's still nice.

The island is small, there are also few markets, the main one with fish not far from the pier, where you can buy freshly caught sea animals and fry at home and save great money: cut shark fillet for steaks (take only a small shark, the big one does not chew the veins well, the fish pumped up its muscles) 3- 4 pieces ~ 9 EUR, a set of 4 pieces of Rainbow fish ~ 4 EUR, upon request and for a minimum additional fee, depending on the volume of the purchased, the fishermen will immediately cut and clean the purchase.

It is more profitable to buy fruits from local people, trade points can be anywhere, but the main congestion is next to the fishermen, on the side where the shopping arcade begins.

A branch of mini-bananas from 1 EUR, mango, papaya, passionfruit - 1 kg from 2.10 EUR. Bargaining is appropriate if you really buy a lot, although you can always try to lower the price with a smile, I often have it.

Accommodation on this island is very interesting, there are only a couple of luxury hotels, with a price of 400 EUR per day for two, and everything else is guesthouses, villas, self catering, chalets, all in the same price range from 75 EUR per day for two to 200 EUR (for renting a summer house with a garden plot), all types of housing in which I had to live or visit in perfect condition, unlike Mahe, where I lived in huts for a similar price. Major attractions. What to see

The main reason for planning a trip to this island is a visit to the National Park and the legendary beach of Anse Source d "Argen", it will take the whole day. Therefore, you can stay on the island no longer than 2-3 days, for a general familiarization visit.

For those who arrived for peace and comfort - book accommodation for 5 days, but not longer, then you will scream out of boredom. The entire island can be explored on foot in two days; a day is enough on a bike, at a fast pace.

You will be able to see and participate in the creation of real organic coconut oil. This is the coolest thing I've seen on the island, in terms of practical experience. Hundreds of coconuts are dried in an oven for several days, which resembles our bath. Then they are cleaned of copra, and the pulp is placed in a special mill and the ox (the cow is a boy) walks around on a leash and turns up this mill, where everything is kneaded and real butter is wrung out

Secret life: take empty plastic bottles with you and then the woman supervising the process will sell you butter directly “from under the cow”, naturally, cheaper than in the store at the reserve. A liter is about 9 EUR, but here you can certainly see that the oil, without any admixtures and dilution, is produced in an ecological way. I can compare with most of the oil that I bought on all the islands, it was the coolest quality

Further, walking inland, you will find yourself in another stunning place - vanilla plantations. Picking the pods is strictly prohibited, and all products can be bought at the shops in the park. But how magical it is to see how it grows and what aromas will blow over you, unforgettable.

The turtle nursery is large, but somehow they look quite sad there. I am sure that there are already a lot of opportunities on the islands, to feed the turtles personally, right on the grass, where they walk freely, and not behind a stone wall.

In the center of the reserve is the Planter's House, one of the oldest examples of French colonial architecture on La Digue, you can go inside and look at the arrangement

In terms of security, everything is so good that it is not even worth worrying about. You can walk even at night, even during the day, locals, again, can only ask to make sure that everything is in order with you and you do not need help in case you get lost or something else.

They live enjoying life, are in no hurry and do not know what vanity is. Punctuality is not about them, but if you agreed to meet, then this is plus at least an hour to the initially stipulated one.

Holidays

Every year, on August 15, one of the most significant holidays of the entire Seychelles archipelago takes place - La fete la digue.

The celebration attracts not only guests and tourists, but also locals from all neighboring islands. Officially, the holiday is timed to coincide with the religious Feast of the Assumption. The ceremony begins in the open air at La Grotto, with the bishop himself present. Believers in a solemn procession reach the Temple itself. After the service of the solemn Mass, the faithful parishioners join the rest of the residents and guests and the celebration turns into a street format with a lively and colorful atmosphere.

The main shops and souvenir shops are concentrated in the area of ​​the pier, from which the main street starts along which you can walk directly to L "Union Estate.

I cannot say that the assortment is somehow different or more unique on the island, most likely, I would recommend postponing shopping until returning to Mahé, probably from there you will have a flight back.

Clubs and nightlife

Here's something, but on this sleepy and peaceful island, it's definitely not up to nightlife... Some hotels invite musicians to a restaurant for dinner, but even then there is a musical break until 10 pm and no later.

• Tarosa- directly opposite the pier in La Pass. This open air restaurant / bar has some Friday night action. Local musicians perform peculiar cover versions of hits of modern and traditional Creole music. At this time, everyone who wants a holiday on the island, from locals to tourists, rests there.

As I said, it is advisable to postpone shopping until Maheu.

But (!) Do not forget to buy coconut oil in L "Union Estate and in the same souvenir shops, various vanilla products(vanilla stitches, essence, vanilla tea).

Although, the best vanilla tea I bought the production of Mahe and it costs a penny EUR 0.43 - 0.60 EUR / 7-10 SCR. All my friends love it and order me to bring it in packages. After brewing, I recommend diluting it with milk, better melted, it turns out milk vanilla oolong.

How to get around the region

Of course, there are cars on the island, even about 10 Taxi, but there is no particular need for them. The main accommodation is in the pier area, all within walking distance. We have never used taxi services on La Digue.

Great idea - ox-cart taxi, if it's heavy suitcases, where will you still roll your luggage like that. They are also located at the pier. We did not use it either, because it took 7 minutes to walk to our villa at a slow pace. But this type of transport is probably in second place in popularity, after a bicycle.

A bike- the most convenient and suitable mode of transport on the island. There are a lot of rentals. The main ones, of course, are in the area of ​​the pier and between the retail outlets along the main street.
