Psebay village: history and modernity

The foothills of the Caucasus, the place where the Malaya Laba mountain meets the Rocky Range: it is here, on the left bank of the river, that the village of Psebay is located. Geographically, it belongs to the Mostovsky District of the Krasnodar Territory, its length is 12 km.

The name has an ancient Turkic origin, it means “a place rich in water”. In addition to Malaya Laba, the Psebayka canal, a "man-made" river, flows here. The settlement arose back in 1857, initially the military of the Sevastopol regiment with their families, later the Cossacks, were stationed here. Since 1888, members of the royal family have chosen this area as a hunting ground. The cousin of Nicholas II, Semyon Mikhailovich, loved to spend time here.

During the Soviet era, Psebay became the starting point for many tourist routes- from here started the pedestrian path to Krasnaya Polyana, designed for 5 days and considered one of the most interesting in the Caucasian reserve. Now the area and even the mentioned route have received a rebirth, although for many years they were undeservedly forgotten.

What is worth seeing in Psebay itself?

There is a representative office of the Northern Department of the Caucasian Nature Reserve, where passes are issued for routes along it. Therefore, for tourists, the village is a convenient location for collecting and obtaining permits.

Those who are interested in natural minerals will surely enjoy the stone workshop. You can view the collection and buy handmade souvenirs made of stones and semi-precious gems mined in Caucasus mountains, in the Urals, etc.

Hang gliding fans often gather in the village - the valley is protected from strong winds, which allows you to soar freely for up to 9 months a year. In the near future, a large-scale development of this kind of extreme sport is planned in Psebay.

The village of Psebay is becoming more and more popular every year, among tourists who prefer the so-called " Wild rest". Basically, people strive to get to these lands in order to fully enjoy the beauty of the surrounding nature. Moreover, there are quite enough places here that deserve attention.

A bit of history

The village was created back in 1857, but it has truly become habitable since 1862. During these years, families of Cossacks and soldiers began to come here. Psebay developed rather slowly. The rapid development began in 1888, when the cousin of Nicholas II, Sergei Romanov, moved here. He rented a huge amount of land. Punished to build a church, a hunting lodge. They have survived to this day, are considered historical monuments and belong to the sights of the village.

In Soviet times, the route (on foot) to Krasnaya Polyana, through the Caucasian Reserve, began here. Over time, it was abandoned and only in the two thousandth year it was not only resumed, but also planned new routes. These places are especially popular with tourists who are fond of hang gliding, rafting, jeeping and so on.

Caves around Psebay

In the vicinity of the village of Psebay, there are a lot of mountains, respectively, and caves. Many of them are included in tourist routes. Gunka caves are the most impressive in this area. They are located in the gully with the same name, there are four of them. A river flows out of the largest and most popular. There are three halls in it, united by a narrow and low peculiar corridor. The first hall is the smallest, the second is slightly larger and the third is the largest. Its height is about 10 meters, and its width is from 12 to 25, with a length of 80 meters. While the first hall is only forty-five meters long, 20 wide and three high. The total duration of the Gunka Caves is about one kilometer, but during the flood period, most of them simply cannot be reached.

Malaya Laba - river

The peculiarity of this river is always clean and cold water. The river bed is fed by glaciers, so the water is always perfect here. Along the way, the Laba is "skittish", right up to the place where it flows into the Bolshaya Laba. The river is rough and very popular among fans of rafting. Almost throughout the entire territory of the village, the banks are steep and steep. And only outside of it they become even. In floods, the river becomes dangerous. Spills begin, a very strong current. The river is very popular among fishing tourists. At the same time, fishing here cannot be called calm. You have to be a real professional to catch trout, which is available here in abundance, or chub.

These places are very popular at all seasons. The water temperature in them reaches 80 - 90 degrees. While in the baths it is 37 - 42. The water here is rich in minerals, for example: potassium, fluorine, calcium and others. What has the most positive effect on the problems of the musculoskeletal system, respiratory tract. Useful water sources and for people who succumb to severe stress, experiencing nervous exhaustion. At the same time, the healing effect remains for a sufficiently long period of time. People come here in any weather.

The mountain is strewn with giant trees, boulders. Incredibly a nice place, from the top of which there is a stunning view of the village of Psebay, the Caucasian ridge and the Laba River. A visit to the Shapka Mountain is included in most tourist routes and is the most popular place.

They are located not in Psebay itself, but in the mountains near the village of Nikitino, which is why they are called that. On the way to them, tourists enjoy the view of the cascades. The places here are very beautiful, the route to the Nikitinsky waterfalls themselves is without steep climbs.

Another natural attraction of these places. The road to them is much more difficult than to Nikitinsky, but the view is more breathtaking. The approximate height is about 40 meters. The last few tens of meters in front of the waterfall are the most difficult. With steep climbs.

The route is quite difficult. First, by car, you need to drive to the village of Solenoe. Then walk a few kilometers. The path goes along the Kyzyl-bek river, through the mountains. But by car you can get to the largest of these waterfalls, almost right back. A huge number of tourists cannot resist the temptation to plunge into the bowls of the lakes at the foot of these waterfalls.

The easiest way to get to the village of Psebay is by car. Public transport rarely comes here. Several transfers are required. Reviews of people who have already been here more than once will help to decide what to get to Psebay.

Almost ten days have passed since I returned from another trip, but I still could not get down to the article. The place is so mesmerizing, winter, mountains, waterfalls ... We didn't see much, we just had a little time, there was so much left ... And I want to go there again!

Wonderful pristine nature, untrodden paths, the purest transparent air, breathtaking springs with such delicious water that the first day at home I could not drink our tap.

It all started with the fact that my friend and I wanted to meet New Year on the train on the way to Siberia. To the sound of wheels, four days on the road! Romance! But it didn't work out. And we decided to stay at home with the children to meet 2017.

They began to think about Christmas. Well, how can you not go on vacation, it is impossible, unrealistic ... and we found a tour to Psebay. We spent 3 holidays... After all, ours is rich in amazing places. An unforgettable vacation, a lot of impressions. But first things first.

In the very east of the Krasnodar Territory, between two ridges and along the Malaya Laba River, a hospitable village stretches for several kilometers. Then there are a couple of villages and that's it, there is no more road. And only with backpacks they conquer the mountain peaks.

And although we came to rest at the camp site, still Psebay for active rest more suitable. If you like hiking, cycling, hang-gliding, dreaming of rafting down a mountain river, then this is the place for you. You will find all this here.

Amazing hikes can be done here. Somewhere far away ... or rather a couple of tens of kilometers from Psebay - Bolshoi Tkhach, and the Devil's Gate, Acheshbok and the Alous ridge. But all this was not included in the plans of the current trip, it is included in my future plans.

Psebay in translation means "a place in which there is a lot of water." There are so many waterfalls, rivers, springs, lakes that you cannot count.

We walked to the Malaya Laba river.

She is relatively calm now. And in the spring, when the glaciers begin to melt, it turns into a stormy rumbling stream.

In winter, the landscapes are no less beautiful, and not far from this place there is a silver spring, where people from all over the area go there for water.

We also visited the waterfall of desires.

V winter time the way there is not the easiest one, we had to overcome both ascents and a very steep wet slope. But at the end of the journey, a real miracle awaited us. Everyone made their cherished wish. They say it comes true. Let's see!

You can look at Psebay and its surroundings from a height on the observation platform, where the guide brought us. Beauty! True, there has been no fresh snow for a long time and the colors are not very bright, but this in no way spoils the overall impression.

Those who wished could ride the pills down the hill. A steep hill, the speed develops oh-oh-oh. But people come there for a ride, in cars and spend several hours there.

Almost all the sights of Psebay are far away, and you have to go by car. But the Gerpegem ridge is very close, you can see it here from everywhere. All tourist centers offer an excursion there. But we were not offered, and I decided to go there myself.

I won't, if I don't conquer at least one. There is a gentle slope. There are almost no trees at the edge of the ridge. The road didn’t seem to be difficult, it seemed not far away, so why wouldn’t I be able to cope. And I climbed the mountain! And the time was already in the afternoon, and the daylight was short….

And that it was winter outside and did not think. The weather was excellent, the temperature was above zero, the snow was melting. And so I go up, and the higher, the more difficult. In the snow, in boots, not even in sneakers, my feet were soaked through and through. No. I'm going higher. And there it is steeper and steeper, I slide, I fall, a couple of times I drowned the camera down in the snow. I thought everything, I ditched it. No, I shook off nothing, it works.

And then I found a horse trail. Wow, I think horses rise to this height, and that I am worse. Well, follow the horse trail. Horses take the easiest road. Noooo, straight faster. Aha! How so!

Somehow I got out on the trail again and then I realized that the shortest road is not always the closest, especially in the mountains.

And then the sun began to set. I didn't have time to get to the top. There are only 200 meters left.

And the view from here is stunning!

I didn't want to go back in the dark alone in an unfamiliar area. And I hurried to go back.

In the morning we saw footprints in the snow - some are hare, and others ... I don't even know what kind of animal it is, but the claws are centimeter 4. And so, going down, for some reason I thought all the time about these footprints. And although I am not such a coward, and I walk alone through the forests and mountains, but ... it was getting dark slowly, and all the time it seemed to me that someone from the forest was looking at me. I go and look around, nobody. It is far to the village, although it is below, under me, no one will hear, no matter how you shout…. Mom dear. I was jumping down and running. And I understood forever that in winter one cannot go to the mountains alone, even if it seems that it is not high and close.

The summit remained unconquered, which means that it is waiting for me, and I will come back here again.

Nowadays, there are fewer and fewer places where the trails are not used, the animals are not afraid, the water is crystal clear. Here is Psebay just such a place. They even have spring water flowing from the tap. Until you meet crowds of tourists there, like in Sochi, there are no huge 5-star hotels, and, thank God, that until civilization has got here and you can plunge into the pristine nature as a whole, with all your soul and whole body.

The climate here is unique, there are almost no winds, it is not hot in summer, and winter is real! True, there is a lot of rain and even hail until mid-summer. Our guide told us that it is better to come from the second half of July. Then there are many sunny days and you can get around all the local attractions.

There will be a separate article about our hostel "Voskhod". (There is already read I liked it very much with them, the organization of recreation, the territory, the rooms, the SPA complex with a sauna, a steam room, a jacuzzi and herbal tea ... Mmmmm, how great we had a rest!

As we drove, see the map.
