This year my family and I spent only 4 days in Blanes - the quiet and oldest town of the Costa Brava - but fell in love with it for life ... Imagine a place just perfect for family vacation with a beautiful pine promenade, a magnificent arranged beach of three kilometers, a wonderful rocky landscape so characteristic of the "Wild Coast" and the majestic castle of San Juan, located on the cliff and dominating the city, then you will get your first impression of Blanes. The children were delighted with the San Francesk beach - this is not the main beach of Blanes, it is a little off to the side, you have to go to it, but what a beautiful place, everything is covered in pines, and what a wonderful gentle descent into the water, what very rare, both in the Costa Brava and in the Costa Maresme. We lived in a four-star hotel "Beverly Park", it is slightly away from Blanes, but how nice it is to walk in the evening from our quiet place, breathing the coniferous sea air, into a slightly louder Blanes (which cannot be compared with Lloret de - Mar by decibel level). And what wonderful botanical gardens in Blanes - Marimurtra and Pina de Rosa - are something unimaginable, the most fantastic and most beautiful plants in the world seem to have gathered here. Since we flew during the "off-season", the trip cost only 1200 euros for two people. We flew from Moscow to Barcelona airport. A shuttle was arranged from the tour operator to the hotel in Blanes. We took a voucher for 10 days, since there is nothing more to do in Spain in October.

I would not say that excursions in Blanes are very expensive. We drove with sightseeing tour to Barcelona for only 15 euros per person, they also took one day excursion to Andorra, it cost us 90 euros per person. Of course, we went to Montserrat. They paid 20 euros for it. We ordered all excursions from street agencies, since they cost 20-30 euros more from the tour operator. Everything went just fine, we had a Russian-speaking guide with us, comfortable buses and a free lunch in Andorra.

Food and groceries

The food in Blanes was unexpectedly cheap. We had a quiet breakfast for 7-10 euros for two. Simply, most often they ordered one portion for two, since the plates were simply huge. Let's say a large plate of mussels in sauce cost only 5 euros, we took a sandwich for 1.5 euros. The most expensive were shrimps - we paid for them from 10 to 15 euros. Paella was bought very often, a large frying pan cost 10 euros.

If you want to see the oldest city on the Spanish coast, visit picturesque beaches surrounded by rocks and strolling along the beautiful promenade in the evening - you should definitely go to the southern Costa Brava, in Blanes. This small town, with a population of only about 40,000. Conventionally, it is divided into northern and southern parts, in the first there are residential quarters and a port, and in the second, the main tourist infrastructure, all kinds of shops and a lot of entertainment are concentrated. Blanes is located 60 kilometers from majestic Barcelona and is connected to it by regular train and bus connections. There is no unnecessary hustle and bustle and huge crowds of tourists, but the close location to the capital of Catalonia allows its residents to easily get to the desired place and be in the center of all events. The weather in Blanes is always friendly, the swimming season lasts from May to October, and the hotels are family-oriented.

What to see

Although Blanes is the oldest city Spain, and its history goes back more than a dozen centuries, it is not overloaded with any historical sights. And yet, here, as in all of Europe, the remnants of medieval culture have been preserved. First of all, it is the San Juan Tower, the construction of which dates back to the XI-XII centuries. From here, a magnificent panoramic view of the city and its surroundings opens up. Nearby is the ancient Romanesque chapel of St. Barbara. The fountain of San Joan, built in the 15th century, is considered an example of Catalan Gothic. It is a stone octagonal tower with a pointed spire and gargoyles.

The city has a large number of cathedrals and churches. The most prominent is the Church of Santa Maria, founded in the 14th century. This building is striking in its grandeur and beauty. Another relic is the Monastery of the Capuchin Order of St. Anne, built in the Gothic style. During the Civil War, the monks left the monastery, but not so long ago the building and the adjacent territory of the park were reconstructed. Today it is a wonderful recreation area for tourists and residents of Blanes. The largest number of samples of the centuries-old history of the city is concentrated in the area of ​​the "Old City". Here are located typical and, in their own way, fascinating, old narrow streets, walking along which you immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the past centuries. This harmonious blend of the Middle Ages with modernity enchants and captivates even sophisticated travelers.

A must-see is the Marimurtra Botanical Garden. He is rightfully listed as one of the beautiful places not only Spain, but all of Europe. The huge variety of flora is truly impressive and amazing. The garden is divided into three zones: flora of the temperate zone, Mediterranean and subtropical. The abundance of all kinds of flowers, trees and cacti will undoubtedly appeal not only to botanists, but also to all connoisseurs of beauty. Here you can simultaneously visit India, Spain, and after passing a hundred meters you will be transported to the atmosphere of Japan. In the back of the garden, there is the opportunity to relax on benches in cozy gazebos, enjoy the aromas of flowers and admire the magnificent views from the hills to the rocky Costa Brava.

Not far from the city is the world's largest botanical cactus garden - Pigna de Rosa, founded in 1945 by Fernando Riviera de Caralt. A large-scale collection of the genus of succulents is collected here, which, in addition to cacti, includes aloe, agave, liptos, etc. In total, the garden contains more than 8 thousand species of plants from all continents; its area is about 50 hectares. All conditions are created there for an interesting pastime with the whole family: you can stroll along the shady alleys, relax on benches or visit a cafe. Children will love the small but very picturesque pond with many swimming fish.

Blanes is a universal resort, and, despite its small size, there is a huge number of hotels, cafes, restaurants, bars and shopping centers, everyone will find something to their liking: shopping, exploring historical monuments, walking in unique botanical gardens, parks and an elegant promenade. Many tourists come here for a peaceful beach holiday... The subtropical Mediterranean climate with a lot of sunny days creates favorable weather for holidays in Blanes throughout the year, even though its geographical position causes frequent winds. The four-kilometer coastline of the city is divided by a rocky outcropping, forming several magnificent beaches. In the central part of the city, they have all the necessary infrastructure: a shower with fresh water, a toilet, umbrellas, sun loungers, changing cabins. Blanes is a small charming town divided into two parts:
