Majorcan attractions. Mallorca vacation report with child

What does the phrase “trip to the island” mean to a child? Endless sea expanses, sandy coast, hot sun, lush vegetation (necessarily palms with bananas and coconuts) and continuous adventures, including meeting with pirates.

This is exactly what it looks like Spanish island Majorca. True, to all the beauties of the landscape, there is also a well-developed tourist infrastructure and safety. And, of course, a warm, sunny climate contributes to family holidays.

One of the priority areas of the tourist business is holidays with children in Mallorca. This is the focus of service in hotels and restaurants, entertainment, healthcare services. Kidpassage has collected all the most important information about the resorts of Mallorca. Find out, when is the best time to come to the island to sunbathe, and how to choose a good place to relax with a child.

Mallorca on spain map

Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands located in the Mediterranean Sea. The distance from Palma de Mallorca, the capital of the island, to Valencia and to Barcelona by sea is 275 km.

From the main city of Mallorca to the resort towns of Playa de Palma and Can Pastilla - 8 km, to Illetas - 13 km, to Palma Nova - 15 km, to Magaluf - 18 km, to Santa Ponsa - 22 km, to Paguera - 25 km, to Cala d'Or - 65 km, to Alcudia - 60 km.

Finding where Mallorca is on the map is easy. Although it is smaller than the island of Sardinia, located 400 km away, it is still impossible not to notice it. The island has been noticed before: armies of different nations fought for Majorca, until in the 18th century the Balearic Islands became part of Spain.

Vacation with children

Holidays in Mallorca are exotic and mundane mixed in the right proportion. On the one hand, this is an island whose history is steeped in legends about pirates. On the other hand, the Spanish routine is great hotels, clean beaches and delicious food.

In many ways, holidays in Mallorca with children are very similar to holidays in other resort regions of Spain. The usual "constructor" works here: there is everything you need for passive rest, for active travel, for a fun pastime. All this can be arranged at your discretion.

Nevertheless, it should be noted that Majorca will be most appreciated by those who like to rent a car and travel around all the surroundings, get to know the non-resort life, break away from the noise of the city. The island is devoid of large-scale attractions, but the beauty of nature it does not occupy.

At the same time, there is also enough entertainment for children in Mallorca. True, in order to organize a varied entertainment program, you will have to go to several neighboring resorts.

But we must pay tribute to the quiet pastime. If you want to relax with your child in a quiet resort with a nice beach and comfortable hotel Mallorca is perfect. On the island enough places to come with a baby and enjoy the silence.

The only drawback is the complexity of the transfer. Traveling to Mallorca usually involves a connecting flight, although there are direct flights during high season.

When is the best time to go

Fact: During the year, Mallorca hosts dozens of holidays, festivals, fairs, and most of them fall in winter and early spring.

But still, the high season in Mallorca is primarily the beach season, and therefore a wave of vacationers rolls onto the island from May to September. There are especially many tourists on the island in July-August.: hotels for this time are booked almost a year before the trip.

Rest in May and the first half of June has its own characteristics. The first is a rather cold sea. Here, a swimming pool in a hotel or in a water park can help. The second is the small number of regular international flights. You may have to look for a suitable charter or fly with a transfer.

It's wise to come to the opening of the season in Mallorca if you want not so much to lie on the beach as to travel around the island.

The weather at the end of spring favors active travelers: there is no heat yet, it rarely rains, and the sun is not too hot for the head (nevertheless, a hat is a must-have attribute for a holiday in Mallorca).

When is the best time to go to Mallorca, if a beach holiday is for you at all last place? In this case, you can safely choose a low season for a trip, full of bright events.

After the Christmas and New Year holidays, a series of new celebrations begins on the island: on January 18-20, Palma celebrates the day of St. Sebastian, the patron saint of the city. At the end of February, the Sa Rua carnival takes place. Its integral part is Sa Rueta, a carnival for children.

On the first day of March, the day of the Balearic Islands is celebrated with folk festivities and fun. In April, the Princess Sofia Trophy sailing regatta is held. October and November are devoted to all kinds of agricultural fairs, including fairs for pumpkins, olives and wine.

The main events of the high season are the Moors and Christians festival in May, the night of fire and the Feast of Saint Juan in June.

Weather and climate

Majorca's climate is typically Mediterranean, with sunny summers and mild winters. We can say that there are only two seasons on the island: hot summer, which lasts from May to October, and warm spring (or autumn) from November to April.

For those who have yearned for the beaches during the winter, you can plan a vacation in Mallorca in early May. The average daily temperature in May is + 23 ° С, but sometimes surprises are possible in the form of heat above + 30 ° С or, conversely, cooling up to + 18 ° С. In any case, it is worth taking warm clothes for rest, because at night in Mallorca it gets colder up to + 12-15 ° С.

On vacation with a child usually come not earlier than June, because in May, the sea does not have time to warm up enough... And since with the arrival of summer the air temperature rises to + 27-28 ° C, then the water will soon become warm.

The most intense heat in Mallorca comes in July-August. Thermometers show + 30 ° С already in the morning, and by noon the air heats up to + 35 ° С.

The heat is not so noticeable due to moderate humidity and a refreshing breeze, but for a beach holiday it is still better to choose only morning and evening hours. By the way, summer evenings in Mallorca delight with pleasant coolness: the temperature drops to + 20-24 ° С.

And if you think that the main conditions for have a nice rest- it's not too hot weather, warm sea and no crowds on the beach, then choose September for your trip.

In September, the period of mass vacations remains behind, the air temperature drops to + 26 ° С, the sea retains the heat accumulated over the summer - perhaps better rest in Mallorca with children it is impossible to imagine.

But the October weather is unpredictable, and in a good way. Usually, in mid-autumn, the temperature is kept at + 22 ° C, but often October, in terms of heat and the number of sunny days, resembles real summer. At this time, you can come with a baby to Mallorca without fear of the heat and the scorching sun.

From November to April, the temperature in Mallorca drops to + 14-19 ° C. Unlike summer, when there is almost no rain, late autumn, winter and early spring are rainy times. But even during this period, the number of gloomy days is no more than the number of sunny days.

Sea water temperature

In our understanding, there is no cold weather in Mallorca, but the beach season here opens only in May, and the bathing season even later. For example, in May on the beaches of Mallorca people are already sunbathing, but almost no one swims: the sea temperature barely reaches + 19 ° C.

In June, the situation changes for the better. By the middle of the month, the water warms up to + 23 ° С. In July-August, the water temperature in Mallorca is + 25-26 ° С, and during periods of prolonged heat it can rise to + 28 ° С.

Throughout September, the sea remains very warm, although the water temperature gradually drops to + 24 ° C. Often the swimming season lasts all October, because the water remains at a temperature of + 22-23 ° C and only by the end of the month cools down to + 20-21 ° C.

Nutrition

Meals in Majorca hotels are rarely included in the room rate. Usually tourists eat outside hotels, in restaurants local cuisine especially since the culinary traditions of Mallorca are enjoyed by children.

Pa amb tomàquet is the perfect place for a quick bite: toasted bread slices spread with a mixture of tomatoes, olive oil and garlic. You can put sausage or cheese on such bread.

And among the Mallorcan desserts, children really like ensaimada - a sweet bun made of yeast dough, rolled up in a spiral.

If you prefer to cook on your own, you can buy all the food you need in supermarkets. They are almost everywhere, but in some towns only small shops operate. Also, all resorts have their own market day, when trading in fresh vegetables, fruits, meats and cheeses opens.

Transport

Public transport in Mallorca is both ordinary and amazing at the same time. Its system includes buses, the city metro in the capital and two trains - modern and old. All this is managed by the TIB company: on its website there is detailed information on routes, timetables and fares.

The most convenient form of transport in Mallorca is buses. They can be used to travel anywhere on the island. There are about a hundred routes, and almost half of them operate only in high season, when tourists need to get to resorts.

The fare for buses depends on the distance. For example, a ticket from Palma to Santa Ponsa costs 3.40 euros, to Alcudia - 5.40 euros, to Cala d'Or - 8.40 euros. Tickets are sold only from drivers. For frequent trips, you can buy a T20 or T40 card ...

Its price depends on the coverage area and is 16.80-51.40 euros for a card for 20 trips, 25.20-77.25 euros for a card for 40 trips. The zoning scheme is relatively complex, but the TIB website lists for each route how many zones it crosses.

There is no discount on single tickets for children, but you can buy a youth card that gives a 50% discount on travel. The youth card can be used by people aged 4 to 25. Children under 4 years old travel on buses free of charge.

City buses are available only in the capital of the island, and several can be used to get to the nearest resorts.

City bus number 3 goes from Palma to Illetas, number 15 and 25 - to Can Pastilla and Playa de Palma. The fare in the city is 1.50 euros, to the port - 3 euros, to the airport - 5 euros.

The Metro in Palma de Mallorca connects the city center with the inland suburbs. Rather, it is an excursion transport, like the trains going to Inca, Sa Pobla and Manacor. And only the decorative old train Palma - Soller will take you to the coast (albeit northern, not a resort, but very picturesque).

Whether or not to use a taxi to get around Mallorca depends on the situation. For example, you can get from the airport to the resort at night only by taxi. The cost of the trip consists of a boarding fee (about 4 euros) and for each kilometer of the way (about 1.5 euros).

For active travel, it is convenient to rent a car. The roads in Mallorca are good, there are many parking lots, there are even free ones. Car rental offices are located at the airport and in all resorts.

Mallorca is one of the largest islands that make up Spain, located in the Balearic archipelago in the middle of Mediterranean Sea... I believe this is truly heavenly place where you can enjoy picturesque landscapes, clean beaches and forget about all everyday problems.

This small island, whose area is only 3.5 thousand square kilometers, a little different from the resorts we are used to in Spain, and all because in its entire long history it managed to be at the disposal of the Phoenicians, Romans, and of course, the Arabs. Therefore, the culture here is really very rich!

Getting to know this wonderful island I started with its capital - Palma de Mallorca. It is here that all its main attractions are concentrated.

As soon as I left the airport, I was struck by the long palm tree lane that led the arriving tourists to the parking lot. The palm trees there are truly stately, the size of three-story houses! You look and cannot believe your eyes that only 4 hours ago you were in a gray rainy city, and now you are already among such beauty!

And when you drive directly into the capital itself, your eyes start to run up. You look to the left - a sea of turquoise color, you look to the right - the majestic cathedral, and right in front of you - high mountains.

Here you want to take pictures of absolutely everything, so I advise you to free up memory on your phone, tablet and camera in advance, because you will constantly have a desire to capture this or that place!

How to get there

You can get to Mallorca by two types of transport: air and water.

By far the most commonly used and comfortable option is the airy one. The island's capital, Palma, has international Airport, from where every half hour depart and where liners of various European airlines also often land.

As for water communication, Palma has the main port of the island, where ships from various parts of Spain arrive every day, which is very convenient for tourists who spend most of their time on the mainland, for example, in Barcelona or Valencia, and on weekends go on an excursion to Palm tree.

You can get around the island by bus, car or train.

By plane

The main and only airport of the island, which bears the name Son san joan , located 8 kilometers from the capital, Palma de Mallorca. It is here that both external and internal flights arrive. The airport has very good connections with various European countries, including Russia.

Flights from Moscow

Direct flights from Moscow (Domodedovo airport) fly to Mallorca: S7 airlines, the average cost of a round-trip ticket is 20 thousand rubles. In addition, you can fly to the island by flights with one or more transfers, which are carried out by the Spanish airline Iberia also from Domodedovo airport for the same price (about 20 thousand rubles). It is worth noting that there are several other European airlines that carry transfers to Palma, for example:

  • Finnair;
  • Lufthansa;
  • Swiss;
  • Czech Airlines;

But then the flight time will be more than 20 hours, which is completely inconvenient and not worth the money. Therefore, I advise you to choose a direct flight!

In this case, the travel time will be only 4.5 hours, so I recommend not to save on tickets and not spend the whole day on endless transfers.

You can compare prices yourself, for example.

How to get from the airport to the city

You can get from the airport to the city center either by bus or by taxi.

By far the more economical option is the bus. Routes 1 and 17 run here constantly, which will take you to Palma for only 3 €. If you need to resort town Arenal, then bus number 21 leaves from here directly to its center.

But a taxi will cost much more - the average cost of a trip is 20 €, and if you are traveling in a group, you can order a minivan for 40 €.

In addition, you can rent a car directly at the airport, there is a wide range of car rental companies (Hertz, Avis, Europcar). The average rental price starts from 50 € per day. Details below.

By ferry

So, the second way to get to Mallorca is to sail from another part of Spain by ferry or high-speed catamaran. The latter are sent daily to the island directly from:

  • Barcelona (4.5 hours drive),
  • Valencia (4-6 hours drive),
  • Menorca (2.5 hours drive),
  • Ibiza (3 hours drive)

The average ticket price is 40 € and depends on the characteristics of the vessel.

How to get from the port to the center

The port of Palma de Mallorca is located 6 kilometers from the city center, if you wish and good physical fitness, you can walk to the center along the promenade, enjoying beautiful views and a light breeze, or take bus number 1 for only 1.5 €.

The bus stop is next to the port. Of course, you can catch a taxi and drive to the Cathedral (the trip will cost 10 €).

When is the season. When is the best time to go

According to local residents, the island of Mallorca reveals itself to tourists in all its glory at the end of spring and continues to delight the eye until mid-autumn. This is the best time to relax!

As for winter, the Spaniards believe that at this time of the year their life becomes very calm, quiet and even a little boring. Although the weather in winter is favorable here (about +14 ° C), there is absolutely nothing to do. Because even on the beach you won't lie down, you won't swim, and you won't enjoy seasonal fruits and vegetables. Therefore, it is not worth going to Mallorca in the low season (that is, from November to March). The only tourists on the island at this time are employees of companies who arrange business meetings, trainings or business trips here.

Mallorca in summer

Like all resorts, Mallorca is especially beautiful in summer. It is at this time of the year that the temperature of the air and water reaches its maximum level and all the most beautiful flowers and shrubs of the island bloom everywhere. By the way, it was in Mallorca that I noticed a very large number of those very flowering evergreens, and this cannot but please the eye!

Of course, summer (especially July) is also a vacation time, so there are a lot of tourists here, in fact, as elsewhere. But since Mallorca is still an island and it is not cheap to rest on it, wealthy Europeans and most often those over 35 or young families with children like to come here. It is believed that recreation in Mallorca is quite calm and the pace of life is measured, so all young people who prefer nightclubs to evening boat trips go to the neighboring island, Ibiza. But at the same time, it cannot be said that Mallorca is dead place, suitable only for retirees: here you can also have fun and active recreation. But the most important treasure of the island is its incredibly beautiful nature! Such landscapes as here, you will not see anywhere else!

By the way, the climate here is very pleasant, in summer the air temperature reaches around +30 ° C, and in winter - +15 ° C. Unfortunately, there is nothing to do in Mallorca in winter. Locals say they have a lull at this time of year. In fact, the island is inhabited by about a million people, so at a time when all tourists go home, the island becomes empty and almost deserted. Residents calmly go about their daily affairs, and nothing special happens here. Therefore, I do not advise you to go here in winter, although if you are tired of the hustle and bustle of the city, then here you can definitely be alone with yourself and nature. It is not for nothing that it is here that the residence of the Spanish royal family is located! And also such celebrities as Claudia Schiffer, Michael Douglas and Gwyneth Paltrow bought villas in Mallorca. Since Mallorca caters to the demanding taste of the stars of the first magnitude, then you will surely like it too!

Mallorca in autumn

The beginning of autumn in Mallorca is considered velvet season, therefore, until the end of September, you can have time to enjoy the bright sun and warm sea... But since October, the sun sets at 7 pm, and it becomes noticeably colder, the temperature reaches + 7-8 ° C.

Even in the period from late October to early November, rain and thunderstorms become more frequent on the island. Therefore, at this time it is no longer worth resting in Mallorca.

Mallorca in spring

Spring in Mallorca gradually begins the high season, already in March - April the air temperature reaches + 20-23 ° C, the warm pleasant sun is shining, and flowers begin to bloom. At this time, you still can't swim, but you can already take sun baths.

In spring, the island is good because there are still few tourists here, and you can spend a quiet relaxing vacation.

Mallorca in winter

Winter in Mallorca is a time of complete peace and tranquility. The sun shines here quite often, and snow falls only in the mountains, it rarely reaches the lowlands. December is considered a rainy month, but January and February are characterized by pleasant, comfortable weather. The average daytime temperature reaches + 14-15 ° C.

The only caveat is that it is very boring here in winter, and this is a favorite time of the year for retirees.

What are the prices for rest

As I mentioned earlier, holidays on the island of Mallorca can be classified as luxury, and therefore here you will find hundreds of villas and apartments for rent, the price of which starts from 1.5 thousand € for 10 days.

In principle, if you compare this price with hotels, the difference will be insignificant. For the same 10 days in a 3-star hotel in any area of the island, you will pay an average of about 1.7 thousand €, and in a 5-star hotel - about 4 €.

If you consider that in your apartments you will cook yourself, and in hotels use the all-inclusive service, then the costs will be approximately the same.

Therefore, you decide which is more convenient, but personally I lived in a good 3-star hotel, where, in addition to all-inclusive meals, there is a free gym, bar, pool and, of course, theme parties!

TOP 5 best hotels on the island

I want to introduce you to my TOP-5 best hotels islands:

  • Globales Simar 4 * (from 1.7 thousand € for 10 days for two).
  • Barcelo Ponent Playa 3 * (from 1.3 thousand € for 10 days for two).
  • Globales Palmanova 4 * (from 2.1 thousand € for 10 days for two).
  • Insotel Cala Mandia Resort & Spa 4 * (from 4.2 thousand € for 10 days for two).
  • Blue Bay Hotel 3 * (from 1.2 thousand € for 10 days for two).

You can navigate the prices for ready-made tours (with flights, transfers, accommodation and insurance) to hotels of different categories in the Trevelask section.

Costs

So, if you decide to stay at a hotel, then there will be no problems with food, and if you decide to rent an apartment or a villa, then you have the option of shopping in supermarkets, of which there are quite a few on the island. One of the most popular, often catching my eye, is Eroski. This is a Spanish supermarket chain where you can buy everything from bread to hand cream at average Spanish prices.

If you buy groceries for a week, the average bill will be about 60 €. You can also visit restaurants and cafes, which will be quite expensive, given that the average bill will be 50-60 €.

You can go on excursions both independently and with a guide. Mallorca is a small island, from Palma to Alcudia can be reached in just an hour and a half, that is, it will not be difficult to travel the entire island far and wide in one day.

You can rent a car for 50–70 € per day and go to explore the island yourself, or you can travel by bus for just 6 €. Group excursion with a guide on your own rented bus will cost about 100 €. A taxi ride around the island will cost around € 80–90.

Major attractions. What to see

Majorca is renowned for its many attractions and incredibly beautiful must-see sites.

If you like to learn all the smallest details and Interesting Facts about certain sights, you can hire a guide or order a full excursion. And if you like to walk independently beautiful places and discover something new for yourself, you can examine everything yourself.

It is worth choosing a day for the excursion in advance, it is advisable to single out one of the weekdays (except Friday), since on weekends the locals begin to have siesta and rest, and there are too many people on the streets who will interfere with you properly considering everything. In Mallorca, bad weather is extremely rare, so you should not be afraid of rain and cold weather, but you can still look at the forecast before walking, just in case.

The island's capital, Palma, is not very large, so you can walk around the city and see the main attractions.

The map below shows the main tourist spots, museums, galleries, bus stops and more.

I bring to your attention my version of one day in the capital of the island of Palma, I advise you to get around on the Citysightseeing tourist bus (ticket price 18.5 €):

  • 10:00 - we go to Bellver Castle, which is located a couple of kilometers from the city. Here we will spend about 2 hours.
  • 12:00 - we are heading to the Spanish village.
  • 13:30 - stop for lunch at Sadrassana Restaurant Cocteleria (Placa Drassana, 15).
  • 15:00 - we go to the cathedral. Since this place is considered the main attraction of the city, we will spend about 2 hours here.
  • 17:00 - go to the main tourist streets of Palma and walk, go to the Rivareno ice cream parlor (Plaza Llotja, 1) and enjoy the most delicious cold dessert of the island.
  • 20:00 - Have a seafood dinner at La Parada del Mar restaurant (Avenida Joan Miro 244 Marivent) and celebrate the end of a great day with a glass of sangria.

Beaches. Which is better

Mallorca is the perfect place for a beach holiday; it is on this island that dozens of the most best beaches Spain, but what about Spain, the whole world! In fact, no matter what beach you come to, it will definitely be quiet, cozy and clean. Even not far from Palma in resort areas, where thousands of tourists rest, they are very worthy! But the best places to soak up the sun and enjoy swimming in the clear sea water are secluded coves, of which there are many in Majorca.

As I wrote above, I was vacationing in the Cala Major area, a few kilometers from the capital, and one day, quite by accident, I wandered into a cove where there was a small beach, and the sea there was crystal clear! There were not very many vacationers there, mostly locals and tourists like me, who, most likely, also accidentally found this piece of paradise.

And yet I will list the best of the best beaches in Mallorca that are worth visiting just to get an idea of what heaven on earth is.

Beach Cala S "Almunia

Museums. Which are worth visiting

There are quite a few museums in Mallorca, perhaps because the incredible nature compensates for all the cultural institutions here. Below I have selected some of the most interesting of them, which are really worthy of the attention of tourists.

Museum of ceramics

In the northeast, not far from Palma, is located small town Sa Cabaneta, it is he who is considered the center of the production of ceramics. In 2002, a museum opened here, displaying around a thousand traditional Mallorcan ceramics worth seeing. The museum has a pottery school and various souvenir shops.

Raiha Manor

12 kilometers from Palma, on the way to the town of Sawyer, there is a beautiful manor house, which is an object of historical and artistic value in Mallorca. Previously, there was a Moorish building here, and after several changes of owners, it came to the Count of Montenegro and was ennobled. There are incredibly beautiful landscapes, large gardens and wonderful architecture.

The island of Mallorca can be called one big park, wherever you go, you will be surrounded by small picturesque bays, green spaces, majestic mountains and endless spaces. But still there are several noteworthy national parks and reserves.

Parc Natural de Mondrago

Nearby islands

If you are vacationing in Mallorca, then I advise you to choose a day or a whole weekend and devote it to a trip to Ibiza.

Balearia ferries leave from the main port of Palma to the port of Ibiza several times a day. The duration of the trip is approximately 3-4 hours, the average ticket price ranges from 50 to 70 euros per person. There are also Transmediterranea ferries from Mallorca to Ibiza, but it should be noted that they only run on Sundays in summer.

Details and schedule can be found on the official website of the company.

In Ibiza, you can walk around the capital of the island of the same name and look at its protective walls, which were erected here in the Middle Ages. It is also worth visiting the Punic Necropolis, and also a must visit picturesque bay Cala d'Hort.

Food. What to try

At first, you might think that there are no traditional dishes in Mallorca, and that everyone is eating there the usual Spanish gazpachos, tapas and tortilla. But how surprised I was when I found out that this small island has its own national dishes that cannot be tasted on the continental part of the country.

Mallorquin soup

It is a broth with vegetables and pork and is served with sliced bread.

The soup is incredibly tasty and very satisfying, which is why the locals love it so much.

Tumbet

It contains vegetables such as potatoes, eggplant and onions.

And also meat or fish is added to them to taste.

Sobrasada

Be sure to try it - this is a moderately spicy sausage made from minced pork and bacon, very reminiscent of the chorizo, popular in Spain, since their cooking technology is very similar.

Ensaimada

And for dessert, don't forget to enjoy this delicious Majorcan Puff Pie. It is rightfully considered the most favorite sweet of the locals.

Ensaimada dough is airy, melting in the mouth, the pie itself is filled with whipped cream or delicate syrup, and sprinkled with icing sugar on top.

Beverages

Popular local drinks include Herbas secas (dry) and Herbas dulces (sweet). They are infused with anise with the addition of various aromatic herbs.

A very popular aperitif on the island is the Palo drink, made by mixing sweet caramel with the bitter bark of the cinchona tree.

Holidays

As the locals joke, in Mallorca every day is a holiday! And this is quite justified: the wonderful climate, beautiful nature and endless sea contribute to the fact that the inhabitants of the island always have a great mood. But there are also several official holidays here.

Carnival of Sant Rua

A special celebration in Mallorca is the Sa Rua Carnival. Here it is held in winter, in the first half of February.

Dressed people in costumes take to the streets of the capital and arrange a procession. The carnival is held before the start of the Catholic fast.

Mallorca day

This holiday is celebrated on September 12, it was adopted by King Jaime II back in 1276, when the island of Mallorca was liberated from Muslims.

On this day, concerts and fairs are organized on the island.

Safety. What to watch out for

The island of Mallorca seemed to me a very calm and safe place. Of course, pickpocketing, which is widespread in Europe, should not be ruled out, but in general, walking in the evening in Palma and its environs is not at all scary, because in summer life is in full swing here until late at night.

In large stores and supermarkets you will definitely not be deceived, and in small souvenir shops you can, just in case, count your purchase amount and the change received, although it is generally not common here to openly profit from tourists.

Therefore, in Mallorca, you should not beware of something serious, but nevertheless, basic simple safety rules should be followed.

Things to do

Mallorca has tons of entertainment, you can explore all the beaches of the island and go snorkeling, or you can dive into it cultural life and visit the most important museums, temples and other historical sites of the island.

You can also go to Cape Formentor, admire the wonderful landscapes and arrange a photo session there. Or travel to the eastern part of the island to meet local farm owners and taste their traditional food. Do not forget about shopping, you must definitely go to the center of leather goods - the city of Inca. There are a lot of options, choose what you like and enjoy your vacation!

Despite the fact that Mallorca is quite small island, shopping here is a pleasure! And all because here you can find exclusive items that are produced only on the Balearic Islands!

Majorca - holidays with children

A vacation in Mallorca with children is a great idea, because here you can really enjoy the peace and quiet, and children will be impressed by the picturesque landscapes and encounters with wild animals that you can find in Natura park, on an ostrich farm or in nature reserves. To travel with a child, you should pay attention to the southwestern, northern or eastern part of the island - in such places there are few noisy young people and parties, so here you can really relax and gain strength.

Ski vacation

Conditional areas. Descriptions and features

The island of Mallorca is divided into 7 main areas:

  • metropolitan,
  • central,
  • northwestern,
  • southern,
  • southwestern,
  • southeastern,
  • northeastern.

Metropolitan area

Located closer to the southwestern part of the island, it is here that the main attractions and the residence of the royal family are located. If you want to be in the center of all events, then it is worth settling here.

The city itself is quite noisy, crowds of tourists walk, it is very hot and stuffy during the day, so I recommend renting an apartment or staying in a hotel located a few kilometers from Palma. I lived in the vicinity of Cala Major Beach, a typical Spanish resort suburb with many hotels, cafes, shops, a large public beach and several museums. In general, an ideal place for those who like a measured, but not too boring vacation. Housing here will be more expensive than in other areas, since it is the capital, that is, the most important area of the island.

Southwest region

This area of the island is the most densely populated. Here are located such large cities as Illetas, Portals, Santa Ponsa, Paguera. It is best to come here with family and children, because in these places you can relax and enjoy the tranquility.

It is also here that the large golf club Bendinat is located, so the area is considered very prestigious and by no means cheap.

Northwest region

Along the coast, in the shade of trees, there are townhouses and villas, which, if desired, can be rented for the summer, and here you can also observe beautiful mountain landscapes. Isn't it a heavenly place?

Northern region

This area is famous for its unforgettable views and pristine beaches. This is where the most high point islands - Cape Formentor, which offers a magnificent view of the sea. Housing in this place will be quite expensive due to the extraordinary beauty of nature and due to the proximity to "star" villas.

Major cities of the area: Alcudia and Poyensa. Near Poyensa is the port from where you can sail around the island by yacht.

Northeast of the island

It is distinguished by its beauty and serenity. Having settled here, you will forget about all the problems and bustle of the city.

The area is full of traditional farmhouses and farms, as well as mingling with friendly locals, who may invite you to sample their garden-grown oranges or homemade ham (cured pork).

Southeast

In fact, it is very similar to the northeast, agriculture and sailing are also common here, so if you want to get to know the local life better and taste fresh fruits, vegetables and seafood, as well as immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the island, get acquainted with its cultural and historical component, then this is a great option!

Southern part of the island

But it is famous for its long beaches, sports bars and noisy discos. The largest resort town is Arenal. It is here that the largest water park on the island is located, an amazing aquarium with sharks and rays, and many more bars. The place is considered to be quite budgetary for recreation, so all young people live in this part, respectively, the prices for accommodation here do not bite in comparison with the costs in other areas.

If you like a bright, fun vacation, then you are here. And a little to the south is the longest beach of the island - Es Trenc. It is distinguished by its white sand and light blue sea.

central part

These are picturesque estates, almond orchards, pastures and olive fields. Another great place to relax in peace, while being only half an hour from Palma.

Here is located Big City Inca, famous all over the world for the production of quality leather goods, as well as the city of Sineu, which is definitely worth a visit to see the magnificent churches and the former Royal Palace and visit the largest fair on the island on Wednesdays.

I usually look for hotels on Booking - and you can check if there is a more attractive price.

The offers for renting private apartments can be found here.

How to get around the island

You can move around the city and around the island itself in different ways.

The most interesting one is on the historical electric train of the island. It starts from Palma de Mallorca Station (Carrer Eusebi Estada, 1), travels along the island, winding between mountains and plains, and stops at railway station Sawyer town.

In addition, the island has high-speed trains that run on several routes:

  • Palma-Inca-Sa Sobla;
  • Palma-Manacor.

The train starts from the underground station in Plaza de España in Palma. A ticket for it can be purchased from the conductor or at the box office of the city.

And it is certainly possible to rent a car.

Taxi. What features are there

And another comfortable option for getting around Mallorca is by taxi. The average cost of the trip is 20 €. List of popular taxi companies on the island:

  • IB Taxi;
  • Mallorcataxitransfer;
  • Mallorca Taxi Car;
  • Taxi PMI;
  • Majorcabdriver;
  • Fono-Taxi.

Public transport

The most convenient way to get around Mallorca is by bus. If you are planning to travel around Palma and its surroundings, you can purchase a 10-ride pass for 10 €, which is very beneficial, since a ticket for 1 trip costs 1.5 €.

The most important sights of Palma de Mallorca (Spain)

Arriving in Palma de Mallorca, the first thing we do is go to the Almudaina Palace. It is located at Avinguda Antoni Maura, 24, 07012. This is a royal palace, and everything related to kings always attracts a large number of visitors.

It combines many styles beautifully. There are both Gothic and Muslim motives here.

The Mauritanian arches are especially attractive to tourists; it is better to look at them in complete darkness, since it is at night that the lighting is turned on.

Now the palace looks a little different than under the kings. This is due to the fact that it has repeatedly undergone changes. A large number of palms are planted around it, which gives it even more flavor.

Then we go to Bellver Castle, it is located at: Carrer Camilo José Cela, s / n, 07014. The castle is popular among travelers due to the fact that it was built in the Gothic style and is one of the first in Europe.

Despite the fact that the building was built in the XIV century, it has survived to this day in the form originally planned by the architect.

Palma de Mallorca Cathedral is a Gothic building. It is located on Plaza Almoina street, s / n, 07001. Locals living in the Balearic Islands call it la Seu. If you decide to visit the palace, pay attention to the royal chapel and its altar. Huge stained glass windows were installed in the XIV century.

Locals also call it Palma Cathedral. This is the place where you can look at the object of the local religion and enjoy the silence.

One of the most striking attractions is the vintage train from Palma to Sawyer . It runs regularly from Palma to Port de Soller.

At the same time, moving along the route, you will enjoy the wonderful aroma of citrus trees. Interestingly, the windows on this train are wooden. You can just take the train and travel back in time.

It is worth noting: it is truly a century-old cultural monument and you can not only look at it, but also move around.

Therefore, when boarding a train, pay attention to everything, because it is unlikely that you will be able to ride such an old transport anywhere else.

The Gordiola factory-museum and shop was built at the beginning of the 18th century. Despite the fact that Spain is a large glass producer, the museum has a huge exhibition of glasses that were brought here from all over the world.

The museum is located at 07210 Algaida.

The Barcelona Magic Fountain is located at Placa Carles Buigas, Barcelona, Spain. Its construction was carried out according to the project of engineer C. Bouygues back in 1929. In its original form, it stood until the beginning of the 90s of the XX century.

And if until this time guests and residents were delighted exclusively by the fountain, which rose and fell down, then by the Olympics every splash of water was sounded, and now beautiful music is playing on the fountain.

Going to Spain, be sure to visit the Old Town . As soon as you step on this land, it seems that you have entered the most beautiful Arab country.

Everything here reminds of Muslim customs and traditions.

If you are a connoisseur of European art, then head to the Museum of Art. It is located at Plaza Porta Santa Catalina s / n.

It contains works of masters from different historical periods. That is why everyone will like it here, even those who have never been interested in art.

Traveling along it, a person finds himself in unforgettably beautiful courtyards, which beckon with their antiquity and beauty.

In order to get to the Monastery of San Salvador, you have to climb 500 meters up the path, which seems quite narrow.

But despite all this, it is worth a visit, since here, right at the entrance, there is a huge statue of Christ.

Dragon Caves is not a solitary cave, it consists of many caves: Black, White and Luis Salvador's cave. Just look - what a beauty!

In order to make it more interesting for tourists, all the grottoes of the caves are illuminated at any time of the day, so you can see everything well enough.

We bring to your attention a video tour of Palma de Mallorca with a description of local attractions:

The fabulous island of Mallorca is one of the most popular Spanish resorts, where the fun continues regardless of the season, the beaches are surprising, and the nature inspires new achievements with its color. Indeed, Mallorca is a place where the azure sea, mountain ranges, dense forests and flowering valleys coexist. This is a real paradise for fruit lovers, extreme entertainment and unforgettable excursions.

However, despite the fact that the resort is raging night life and noisy parties do not stop, holidays with children in Mallorca are still considered very popular. The reason is simple: both parents and children can get a lot of positive emotions on the island.

Another reason for its popularity: the proximity of the resort, the flight from Moscow takes no more than 5 hours, with connecting flights- about 6. That is, the child will not even have time to get tired.

When is it better to come here with your child?

You can relax on the island all year round, but the high season lasts from May to October - during this time you will be able to sunbathe and swim in the sea.

True, in July it can be too hot, for example, for relaxing with a baby. Autumn is also a great option, there are fewer tourists, the water is still warm, and hotels are already offering good discounts.

The resort is good for families, and if you come here with a child, it is recommended not to miss these entertainments:

  • Aquarium in Palma de Mallorca - located in the center of the island, is the best institution in Europe, here you can not only see more than 700 species of Mediterranean flora and fauna, but also enjoy other entertainments. For example, there is a popular attraction where the visitor "lies" on the seabed with sharks and other living creatures swimming above him;
  • Dragon Cave - of course, it is impossible to recommend an excursion for young children to visit, but if you are traveling with a teenager, this unusual attraction of the island is also worth visiting. The views are enchanting and breathtaking. An alternative option is the Arta and Ams caves;
  • Dolphinarium Marineland - incendiary shows are arranged here, which even the smallest children will be happy to watch;
  • Park Kathmandu - visitors are offered a choice of dozens of extraordinary entertainments. For example, you can walk in an upside-down house, play golf near an erupting volcano, or go rock climbing. There are games here for those who like not to get up from their chairs, there is a cinema and thematic rooms.

And, of course, you should go to Mallorca to admire the beautiful landscapes, enjoy the miraculous sights and extraordinary architecture.

Walk with your child in the gardens of Alfabia, arrange a train ride to Soller, visit Galatzo Park, see castles and cathedrals... Holidays on the island will be interesting and varied, and the wildest dreams will come true.

When you have decided on a vacation spot, the question arises: how to choose a hotel in Mallorca for families with children? Someone thinks that this direction is very costly, in fact, here you can find excellent economy class establishments, because price and quality are not always synonymous. The cost of visiting a cafe and buying food also depends on the area, for example, if you get to the center of the island, away from the resort area, you will be pleasantly surprised: the prices here are not higher than on the mainland.
